The Plan To Topple Pakistan Military

On Nov. 19, 2007, this column predicted either Pervez Musharraf or Benazir Bhutto would be assassinated [she was killed five weeks later] and warned in clear words: “This is not about Musharraf anymore. This is about clipping the wings of a strong Pakistani military, denying space for China in Pakistan, squashing the ISI, stirring ethnic unrest, and neutralizing Pakistan’s nuclear program. The first shot in this plan was fired in Pakistan’s Balochistan province in 2004. The last bullet will be toppling Musharraf, sidelining the military and installing a pliant government in Islamabad. Musharraf shares the blame for letting things come this far. But he is also trying to punch holes in Washington’s game plan. He needs to be supported.  Less than a year later, it is stunning how we never saw the signs. Patriot Pakistanis are worried about their homeland. I have no faith in Islamabad. Is anyone listening in Rawalpindi? [Ahmed Quraishi, Aug. 31, 2008.]

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—On the evening of Tuesday, 26 September, 2006, Pakistani strongman Pervez Musharraf walked into the studio of Comedy Central’s ‘Daily Show’ with Jon Stewart, the first sitting president anywhere to dare do this political satire show.

Stewart offered his guest some tea and cookies and played the perfect host by asking, “Is it good?” before springing a surprise: “Where's Osama bin Laden?"

"I don't know," Musharraf replied, as the audience enjoyed the rare sight of a strong leader apparently cornered. "You know where he is?” Musharraf snapped back, “You lead on, we'll follow you."

What Gen. Musharraf didn’t know then is that he really was being cornered. Some of the smiles that greeted him in Washington and back home gave no hint of the betrayal that awaited him.

As he completed the remaining part of his U.S. visit, his allies in Washington and elsewhere, as all evidence suggests now, were plotting his downfall. They had decided to take a page from the book of successful ‘color revolutions’ where western governments covertly used money, private media, student unions, NGOs and international pressure to stage coups, basically overthrowing individuals not fitting well with Washington’s agenda.

This recipe proved its success in former Yugoslavia, and more recently in Georgia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

In Pakistan, the target is a Pakistani president who refuses to play ball with the United States on Afghanistan, China, and Dr. A.Q. Khan.

To get rid of him, an impressive operation is underway:

  • A carefully crafted media blitzkrieg launched early this year assailing the Pakistani president from all sides, questioning his power, his role in Washington’s war on terror and predicting his downfall.
  • Money pumped into the country to pay for organized dissent.
  • Willing activists assigned to mobilize and organize accessible social groups.
  • A campaign waged on Internet where tens of mailing lists and ‘news agencies’ have sprung up from nowhere, all demonizing Musharraf and the Pakistani military.
  • European- and American-funded Pakistani NGOs taking a temporary leave from their real jobs to work as a makeshift anti-government mobilization machine.
  • U.S. government agencies directly funding some private Pakistani television networks; the channels go into an open anti-government mode, cashing in on some manufactured and other real public grievances regarding inflation and corruption.
  • Some of Musharraf’s shady and corrupt political allies feed this campaign, hoping to stay in power under a weakened president.
  • All this groundwork completed and chips in place when the judicial crisis breaks out in March 2007. Even Pakistani politicians surprised at a well-greased and well-organized lawyers campaign, complete with flyers, rented cars and buses, excellent event-management and media outreach.
  • Currently, students are being recruited and organized into a street movement. The work is ongoing and urban Pakistani students are being cultivated, especially using popular Internet Web sites and ‘online hangouts’. The people behind this effort are mostly unknown and faceless, limiting themselves to organizing sporadic, small student gatherings in Lahore and Islamabad, complete with banners, placards and little babies with arm bands for maximum media effect. No major student association has announced yet that it is behind these student protests, which is a very interesting fact glossed over by most journalists covering this story. Only a few students from affluent schools have responded so far and it’s not because the Pakistani government’s countermeasures are effective. They’re not. The reason is that social activism attracts people from affluent backgrounds, closely reflecting a uniquely Pakistani phenomenon where local NGOs are mostly founded and run by rich, westernized Pakistanis.

All of this may appear to be spur-of-the-moment and Musharraf-specific. But it all really began almost three years ago, when, out of the blue and recycling old political arguments, Mr. Akbar Bugti launched an armed rebellion against the Pakistani state, surprising security analysts by using rockets and other military equipment that shouldn’t normally be available to a smalltime village thug. Since then, Islamabad sits on a pile of evidence that links Mr. Bugti’s campaign to money and ammunition and logistical support from Afghanistan, directly aided by the Indians and the Karzai administration, with the Americans turning a blind eye.

For reasons not clear to our analysts yet, Islamabad has kept quiet on Washington’s involvement with anti-Pakistan elements in Afghanistan. But Pakistan did send an indirect public message to the Americans recently.

“We have indications of Indian involvement with anti-state elements in Pakistan,” declared the spokesman of the Pakistan Foreign Office in a regular briefing in October. The statement was terse and direct and the spokesman, Ms. Tasnim Aslam, quickly moved on to other issues.

This is how a Pakistani official explained Ms. Aslam’s statement: “What she was really saying is this: We know what the Indians are doing. They’ve sold the Americans on the idea that [the Indians] are an authority on Pakistan and can be helpful in Afghanistan. The Americans have bought the idea and are in on the plan, giving the Indians a free hand in Afghanistan. What the Americans don’t know is that we, too, know the Indians very well. Better still, we know Afghanistan very well. You can’t beat us at our own game.”

Mr. Bugti’s armed rebellion coincided with the Gwadar project entering its final stages. No coincidence here. Mr. Bugti’s real job was to scare the Chinese away and scuttle Chinese President Hu Jintao’s planned visit to Gwadar a few months later to formally launch the port city.

Gwadar is the pinnacle of Sino-Pakistani strategic cooperation. It’s a modern port city that is supposed to link Central Asia, western China, and Pakistan with markets in Mideast and Africa. It’s supposed to have roads stretching all the way to China. It’s no coincidence either that China has also earmarked millions of dollars to renovate the Karakoram Highway linking northern Pakistan to western China.

Some reports in the American media, however, have accused Pakistan and China of building a naval base in the guise of a commercial seaport directly overlooking international oil shipping lanes. The Indians and some other regional actors are also not comfortable with this project because they see it as commercial competition.

What Mr. Bugti’s regional and international supporters never expected is Pakistan moving firmly and strongly to nip his rebellion in the bud. Even Mr. Bugti himself probably never expected the Pakistani state to react in the way it did to his betrayal of the homeland. He was killed in a military operation where scores of his mercenaries surrendered to Pakistan army soldiers.

U.S. intelligence and their Indian advisors could not cultivate an immediate replacement for Mr. Bugti. So they moved to Plan B. They supported Abdullah Mehsud, a Pakistani Taliban fighter held for five years in Guantanamo Bay, and then handed over back to the Afghan government, only to return to his homeland, Pakistan, to kidnap two Chinese engineers working in Balochistan, one of whom was eventually killed during a rescue operation by the Pakistani government.

Islamabad could not tolerate this shadowy figure that was creating a following among ordinary Pakistanis masquerading as a Taliban while in reality toeing a vague agenda. He was rightly eliminated earlier this year by Pakistani security forces while secretly returning from Afghanistan after meeting his handlers there. Again, no surprises here.

SMELLING A RAT

This is where Pakistani political and military officials finally started smelling a rat. All of this was an indication of a bigger problem. There were growing indications that, ever since Islamabad joined Washington’s regional plans, Pakistan was gradually turning into a ‘besieged-nation’, heavily targeted by the American media while being subjected to strategic sabotage and espionage from Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, under America’s watch, has turned into a vast staging ground for sophisticated psychological and military operations to destabilize neighboring Pakistan.

During the past three years, the heat has gradually been turned up against Pakistan and its military along Pakistan’s western regions:

  • A shadowy group called the BLA, a Cold War relic, rose from the dead to restart a separatist war in southwestern Pakistan.
  • Bugti’s death was a blow to neo-BLA, but the shadowy group’s backers didn’t repent. His grandson, Brahmdagh Bugti, is currently enjoying a safe shelter in the Afghan capital, Kabul, where he continues to operate and remote-control his assets in Pakistan.
  • Saboteurs trained in Afghanistan have been inserted into Pakistan to aggravate extremist passions here, especially after the Red Mosque operation.
  • Chinese citizens continue to be targeted by individuals pretending to be Islamists, when no known Islamic group has claimed responsibility.
  • A succession of ‘religious rebels’ with suspicious foreign links have suddenly emerged in Pakistan over the past months claiming to be ‘Pakistani Taliban’. Some of the names include Abdul Rashid Ghazi, Baitullah Mehsud, and now the Maulana of Swat. Some of them have used and are using encrypted communication equipment far superior to what Pakistani military owns.
  • Money and weapons have been fed into the religious movements and al Qaeda remnants in the tribal areas.

Exploiting the situation, assets within the Pakistani media started promoting the idea that the Pakistani military was killing its own people. The rest of the unsuspecting media quickly picked up this message. Some botched American and Pakistani military operations against Al Qaeda that caused civilian deaths accidentally fed this media campaign.

This was the perfect timing for the launch of Military, Inc.: Inside Pakistan’s Military Economy, a book authored by Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa Agha, a columnist for a Pakistani English-language paper and a correspondent for ‘Jane’s Defence Weekly’, a private intelligence service founded by experts close to the British intelligence.

TARGET: PAK MILITARY

The book was launched in Pakistan in early 2007 by Oxford Press. And, contrary to most reports, it is openly available in Islamabad’s biggest bookshops. The book portrays the Pakistani military as an institution that is eating up whatever little resources Pakistan has.

Pakistani military’s successful financial management, creating alternate financial sources to spend on a vast military machine and build a conventional and nuclear near-match with a neighboring adversary five times larger – an impressive record for any nation by any standard – was distorted in the book and reduced to a mere attempt by the military to control the nation’s economy in the same way it was controlling its politics.

The timing was interesting. After all, it was hard to defend a military in the eyes of its own proud people when the chief of the military is ruling the country, the army is fighting insurgents and extremists who claim to be defending Islam, grumpy politicians are out of business, and the military’s side businesses, meant to feed the nation’s military machine, are doing well compared to the shabby state of the nation’s civilian departments.

Dr. Siddiqa and her book are not important. Worse things have been said about Pakistanis before. All of these details are insignificant if detached from the real issue at hand. And the issue is the demonization of the Pakistani military as an integral part of the media siege around Pakistan, with the American media leading the way in this campaign.

Some of the juicy details of this siege around Pakistan include:

  • The attempt by several American and British writers – and one Pakistani, Dr. Siddiqa – to pitch junior officers against senior officers in Pakistan Armed Forces by alleging discrimination in the distribution of benefits. Apart from being malicious and unfounded, her argument was carefully designed to generate frustration and demoralize Pakistani soldiers.
  • The American media insisting on handing Dr. A. Q. Khan to the United States so that a final conviction against the Pakistani military can be secured.
  • Mrs. Benazir Bhutto demanding after returning to Pakistan that the ISI be restructured; and in a press conference during her house arrest in Lahore in November she went as far as asking Pakistan army officers to revolt against the army chief, a damning attempt at destroying a professional army from within.

Some of this appears to be eerily similar to the campaign waged against the Pakistani military in 1999, when, in July that year, an unsigned full page advertisement appeared in major American newspapers with the following headline: “A Modern Rogue Army With Its Finger On The Nuclear Button.”

Until this day, it is not clear who exactly paid for such an expensive newspaper full-page advertisement. But one thing is clear: the agenda behind that advertisement is back in action.

Strangely, just a few days before Mrs. Bhutto’s statements about restructuring ISI and the need for army officers to stage a mutiny against their leadership, the American conservative magazine The Weekly Standard interviewed an American security expert with similar ideas:

"A large number of ISI agents who are responsible for helping the Taliban and al Qaeda should be thrown in jail or killed. What I think we should do in Pakistan is a parallel version of what Iran has run against us in Iraq: giving money [and] empowering actors. Some of this will involve working with some shady characters, but the alternative—sending U.S. forces into Pakistan for a sustained bombing campaign—is worse.”  Steve Schippert, Weekly Standard, Nov. 2007.

In addition to these media attacks, which security experts call ‘psychological operations’, the American media and politicians have intensified over the past year their campaign to prepare the international public opinion to accept a western intervention in Pakistan along the lines of Iraq and Afghanistan:

  • Newsweek came up with an entire cover story with a single storyline: Pakistan is a more dangerous place than Iraq.
  • Senior American politicians, Republican and Democrat, have argued that Pakistan is more dangerous than Iran and merits similar treatment. On 20 October, Joe Biden told ABC News that Washington needs to put soldiers on ground in Pakistan and invite the international community to join in.  "We should be in there," he said. "We should be supplying tens of millions of dollars to build new schools to compete with the madrassas. We should be in there building democratic institutions. We should be in there, and get the rest of the world in there, giving some structure to the emergence of, hopefully, the reemergence of a democratic process.”
  • The International Crisis Group (ICG) has recommended gradual sanctions for Pakistan similar to those imposed on Iran, e.g. slapping travel bans on Pakistani military officers and seizing Pakistani military assets abroad.
  • The process of painting Pakistan’s nuclear assets as pure evil lying around waiting for some do-gooder to come in and ‘secure’ them has reached unprecedented levels, with the U.S. media again depicting Pakistan as a nation incapable of protecting its nuclear installations. On 22 October, Jane Harman from the U.S. House Intelligence panel gave the following statement: "I think the U.S. would be wise – and I trust we are doing this – to have contingency plans [to seize Pakistan’s nuclear assets], especially because should [Musharraf] fall, there are nuclear weapons there.”
  • The American media has now begun discussing the possibility of Pakistan breaking up and the possibility of new states of ‘Balochistan’ and ‘Pashtunistan’ being carved out of it. Interestingly, one of the first acts of the shady Maulana of Swat after capturing a few towns was to take down the Pakistani flag from the top of state buildings and replacing them with his own party flag.
  • The ‘chatter’ about President Musharraf’s eminent fall has also increased dramatically in the mainly American media, which has been very generous in marketing theories about how Musharraf might “disappear” or be “removed” from the scene. According to some Pakistani analysts, this could be an attempt to prepare the public opinion for a possible assassination of the Pakistani president.
  • Another worrying thing is how American officials are publicly signaling to the Pakistanis that Mrs. Benazir Bhutto has their backing as the next leader of the country. Such signals from Washington are not only a kiss of death for any public leader in Pakistan, but the Americans also know that their actions are inviting potential assassins to target Mrs. Bhutto. If she is killed in this way, there won’t be enough time to find the real culprit, but what’s certain is that unprecedented international pressure will be placed on Islamabad while everyone will use their local assets to create maximum internal chaos in the country. A dress rehearsal of this scenario has already taken place in October when no less than the U.N. Security Council itself intervened to ask the international community to “assist” in the investigations into the assassination attempt on Mrs. Bhutto on 18 October. This generous move was sponsored by the U.S. and, interestingly, had no input from Pakistan which did not ask for help in investigations in the first place.

Some Pakistani security analysts privately say that American ‘chatter’ about Musharraf or Bhutto getting killed is a serious matter that can’t be easily dismissed. Getting Bhutto killed can generate the kind of pressure that could result in permanently putting the Pakistani military on a back foot, giving Washington enough room to push for installing a new pliant leadership in Islamabad fully backed by the West.

Having Musharraf killed isn’t a bad option either. The unknown Islamists can always be blamed and the military will not be able to put another soldier at the top, and circumstances will be created to ensure that either Mrs. Bhutto or someone like her is eased into power.

The Americans are very serious this time. They cannot let Pakistan get out of their hands. They have been kicked out of Uzbekistan last year, where they were maintaining bases. They are in trouble in Afghanistan and Iraq. Iran continues to be a mess for them and Russia and China are not making it any easier. Pakistan must be ‘secured’ at all costs.

This is why most Pakistanis have never seen American diplomats in Pakistan active like this before. And it’s not just the current U.S. ambassador, who has added one more address to her other most-frequently-visited address in Karachi, Mrs. Bhutto’s house. The new address is the office of GEO, one of two news channels shut down by Islamabad for not signing the mandatory code-of-conduct. Thirty-eight other channels are operating and no one has censored the newspapers. But never mind this. The Americans have developed a ‘thing’ for GEO. No solace of course for ARY, the other banned channel.

Now there’s also one Bryan Hunt, the U.S. consul general in Lahore, who wears the national Pakistani dress, the long shirt and baggy trousers, and is moving around these days issuing tough warnings to Islamabad and to the Pakistani government and to President Musharraf to end emergency rule, resign as army chief and give Mrs. Bhutto access to power.

PAKISTAN’S OPTIONS

So what should Pakistan do in the face of such a structured campaign to bring Pakistan down on its knees and forcibly install a pro-Washington administration in Islamabad?

There is increasing talk in Islamabad these days about Pakistan’s new tough stand in the face of this malicious campaign.

As a starter, Islamabad blew the wind out of the visit of Mr. John Negroponte, the no. 2 man in the U.S. State Department, who came to Pakistan last week “to deliver a tough message” to the Pakistani president. Musharraf, to his credit, told him he won’t end emergency rule until all objectives are achieved.

These objectives include:

  • Cleaning up our northern and western parts of the country of all foreign operatives and their domestic pawns.
  • Ensuring that Washington’s plan for regime-change doesn’t succeed.
  • Purging the Pakistani media from all those elements that were willing or indirect accomplices in the plan to destabilize the country.

Musharraf has also told Washington publicly that “Pakistan is more important than democracy or the constitution.” This is a bold position. This kind of boldness would have served Musharraf a lot had it come a little earlier. And even now, his media management team is unable to make the most of it.

Washington will not stand by watching as its plan for regime change in Islamabad goes down the drain. In case the Americans insist on interfering in Pakistani affairs, Islamabad, according to my sources, is looking at some tough measures:

  • Cut off oil supplies to U.S. military in Afghanistan. Pakistani officials are already enraged at how Afghanistan has turned into a staging ground for sabotage in Pakistan. If Islamabad continues to see Washington acting as a bully, Pakistani officials are seriously considering an announcement where Pakistan, for the first time since October 2001, will deny the United States use of Pakistani soil and air space to transport fuel to Afghanistan.
  • Review Pakistan’s role in the war on terror.  Islamabad needs to fight terrorists on its border with Afghanistan. But our methods need to be different to Washington’s when it comes to our domestic extremists. This is where Islamabad parts ways with and Washington.
  • Talk with the Afghan Taliban. Pakistan has no quarrel with Afghanistan’s Taliban. They are Kabul’s internal problem. But if reaching out to Afghan Taliban’s Mullah Omar can have a positive impact on rebellious Pakistani Taliban, then this step should be taken. The South Koreans can talk to the Taliban. Karzai has also called for talks with them. It is time that Islamabad does the same.

The Americans have been telling everyone in the world that they have paid Pakistan $10 billion dollars over the past five years. They might think this gives them the right to decide Pakistan’s destiny. What they don’t tell the world is how Pakistan’s help secured for them their biggest footprint ever in energy-rich Central Asia.

Mr AHMED QURAISHI, Have 2 QUESTIONS - I hope you will not SHY AWAY from answering me. 1. Mr Quraishi, you love ISI & President Musharraf. Yet, Sheikh Ayman Al-Zawahiri has called Musharraf corrupt, vile, anti-Islam and indeed other very low level comments. Sheikh's comments on ISI were also very denigrating. What are your views on the Sheikh's views? 2. Sheikh Zawahari goes on to state that "I wish to stress here the vital fact that the jihad to liberate Kashmir should first be liberated from the ISI because corrupt governments spoil jihad". DID ISI THEREFORE SUPPORT JIHADIS IN KASHMIR OR IS THE SHEIKH LYING? What do you think? Thanks !!

I think the open attack on Pakistan soil will prove to be one last nail to the coffin of Pak Army reputation if they stand and watch while civilians dying in their homes without any cause. Army or Govt. should take a firm stand against this and file a formal complain and end all military ties with US to show sympathies to the People who died for nothing. There should be some limits to patience. Why people will not become extremists when attacks like these happen in our country and our defenders and govt will take no actions! please tell me why?

I agree with Marcia that there are plenty of fake Pakistanis writing their opinions regarding this article. Most of these "fake Pakistanis" are hindus, zionists and others, who want to disseminate false information about Pakistan. Some of these writers are COCKROACHES (english people) also, who want to see Pakistan divided into many parts, just like their own Cockroach Britain, which in the future, will be divided in three parts -- i.e -- Cockroach England, Cockroach Scotland and Cockroach Wales. Cockroach Britain is the biggest terrorist of the world and its division into three smaller parts will bring peace in the world........Anti English .... Cockroach London ..... Cockroach England .... I agree with the writer and I cannot help but think that the war on terror nonsense was concieved the very day Pakistan test fired it's nuclear assets! The War on Terror is a fraud designed to destroy pakistan, how you ask, by the simple fact the both sides (US and Al Qaeda) are one of the same, they are financed by Saudi Petrol Dollars, and who is in the middle of this war? Pakistan! I swear Pakistan is finished and we all have ourselves to blame!

@AQ....AQ if you go back to the 1970's and study the political situation of Balochistan at the time, you will find that the first revolt in balochistan at the time coincided with the growing Russia's influence in Afghanistan where, similar to these times, the sepratists were trained, funded and given refuge in Afghanistan and many nationalist leaders (some of them are MNA and MPA today) were being support3ed by the KGB and RAW. The plan was to make Balochistan unstable so that Russia can have access to the warm waters of Gawadar, which was the next step after Afghan invasion....which thanks to Allah was foiled by the presence of Zia and his shrewd policies and handling of the situation ...and soon afterwards the whole Balochistan insurgency just fizzled out... This time round, it is the US presence in Afghan and the motives are denying strategic access of Gawadar to China, to tame Pak's Nuclear assets, to counter Iran, and I would not be surprised if Muslim countries liek Dubai may also be involved in this subversion act as Gawadar port has the ability to hit at the commerce of Dubai ports.... In retrospect, Mr Musharraf was playing a very clever game and he was most skillfully steering Pakistan till our own IDIOTS were paid money to do the dirty work..
Posted By: zarrar | September 1, 2008 05:00:35 AM

TO ALL THOSE who brush aside AQ's analysis as rubbish or discredit it as part of a concocted conspiracy theory, I would request them to get their blinkers off and do some reading of history and about the CIA.... For starters there are two books that i would recommend: "All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror" by Stephen Kinzer and "Charlie Wilson's War:: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History " (the book not the movie) by George Crile.. These two would be good starters as they are based on research conducted on declassified documents of the CIA... The first book is how the CIA toppled the most Nationalistic and elected PM of Iran, Mr. Mussadagh and the second is about the Afghan War.. Infact the whole drama that Pakistan has been seeing since March 09, 2007 is a carbon copy execution of the CIA operation in Iran in 1950's to topple Mussadagh's govt. So please educate yourselves and then you have every right to discredit or disagree, but with logic of argument, not logic of hate and anger..

Excellent professional presentation! I am 100 % sure a person of your caliber, insight and knowledge will not defend something of this sort unless it is related to ones livelihood. I can't imagine you are not aware of the true role of Pak army in today's mess which has been the result of its messy role in politics since country's independence. The story started with Ayub Khan ascending the army throne in early fifties. Liaquat Ali khan murder, towing country towards US instead of USSR, King Makers role and musical chair game of pre 1958 era, Ayub's take over, joining of SEATO, 1965 debacle, Yahya khan ascendancy, East Pak dismemberment, 93,000 POW, (1972-75 free Period) and then Zia mard -i- momen, Most obedient servant against evil empire, millions of Kalashnikov flow across the porous border, and training of thousands of murderers without taking into considerations its consequences and the mysterious shihadat of the mard – i- momen. Opening Kashmir jihad enterprise and later Taliban enterprise and you know by whom, and so on and so forth. Don't you think the stunted growth of the other state's institutions is the direct result of the Army over lordship? This army is doing anything under the blue that one can imagine except soldering. So Mr Qurishi please for God sake don't waste your precious energies in such useless exercises. Do something better: and I am sure you can do it. You have got enough attention now its high time you start sincere journalism. I am impatiently looking forward to that day. Believe me I was great admirer of you and Mush: both very witty, intelligent and honest looking. But the 12th May incident and the way you and Mush treated it acted as last straw and give me the impression that you both are evil genius and hypocrites.

An interesting article. At least the points raised deserve further investigation, and some points seem true as they are. Quote: "Justice Delayed is Justice Denied" People have said a lot about free judiciary. There are thousands of cases pending before the judiciary. A case normally takes years to reach a judgment and there are thousands in jails awaiting judgment even if they are innocent. Judiciary is probably the only state organization that has a two months summer vacation. What have the great CJ or the great lawyers and their Bar Associations done to resolve these problems? Why can'nt our judges attend courts till 5 or 6 pm like all the other organizations? Why can'nt we have night courts to clear the backlog? In the last 60 years what trust the judiciary has earned? Everybody has either heard or experienced hundreds of stories of corruption and mal-practice in the judiciary. What has been done to gain trust by the judiciary? How many judges and lawyers has been punished? If the judiciary cannot do justice in their own ranks, what can the people expect from them? We now have a lawyer movement. The free media has shown pictures of Lawyers climbing gates, damaging cars and property. Is this what they have learned while studying law? If they themselves cannot obey the law, how can they practice it? Where are their ethics when they are not attending the courts and making their clients suffer by taking the already far off judgment (do not read justice) more delayed? If the judiciary justs works to dispense justice to the common man, a lot will get better in this country.

This is a rubbish article because USA is fully supporting Pervez Musharraf and the Army.Otherwise he could have no Cleaned the Judiciary or changed it by PCO USA did not object Gagged the PRess and Lawyers. Used brute force all over the country. Did each and everything what USA wanted Fully cooperated inWar on Terror.Gave billions of Dollars in last 5 years So only a fool or insane person can support the above article Logic and facts are very much opposite.

My views: The Plan To Topple Pak. Military By AHMED QURAISHI This article is worth reading. It is very intense and make sense as well. I have read few other items and researched a bit as well. And the million dollar question is? what the hell is happening and where are we heading................bomb attacks in masjids or imam bargha, killings of leaders, creation of mayhem............looting, extortion, gwadar port, talibans, mehsud, fazullah, bugti........lal masjid, altaf hussain, economic situation, american involvement and what not. We need to look at this picture with broader mind and approach. Maybe we should all try to spread this and shed some light on recent happenings in Pakistan. Friend of mine sent me this mail and I felt that I must share this with you all and take your feedback and also whoever understand it they can forward it further. We can not just let go of things, we have been manipulated so many times by so many people and we always thought.........we can't do anything about it......and most of us say "it will be all ok or "Allah Malik hay", but now we must think otherwise or else we will loose everything soon. Guys!!! If something happens to Musharraf, if he is assassinated or even if he steps down........Our country would be in great trouble. We don't have other leader, we don't have hero's, .......think, comparing Musharraf what we have? Nawaz Sharif, Zardari Bhutto, Qazi Hussain, Molana Fazlur Rehman, Imran Khan, Altaf Hussain, several hardliners, several feudals, several other terrible people. Some can be called "Snakes". We don't have any other leader after Benazir's death! Imagine all those burning of Banks, cars, trucks, after the death of Benazir.......it was kaotic and crazy....who are those people who burnt Edhi Ambulances........no sane person would do that, rich or poor, PPP/MQM/MMA/PML or any other group wouldn't do that.......than who were those people? Probably the same people who blasted the bomb on 12th Rabiulawal and swept away the all top brass of sunni leaders.......or who killed Hakim Saeed or maybe Danial Pearl Watch movies like Mighty Heart, Kingdom, "Charlie Wilson's war or read about Al-qaeda, Taliban, several crises, central Asian Pipeline, Gwadar, Chinese and Pakistani relationship, Baluchistan etc, it all seems complicated and twisted. Name of the game is America and its vested interests...........remember what they did to USSR without even getting there. They want their interest without waging a direct war on us without even direct involvement of India. Why ISI has been bad named and what Roll CIA is playing to dislodge our country. What was the real story of Lal Masjid. Who is Altaf Hussain, Osama Bin Laden, and what roll they are playing, whose side are they on? It makes more sense that we are being "played on", and our junta has been so naive that they have been following for it either in the name of religion, sect, creed or any other political reasons. I am sure we all can say that Musharraf happens to be the best out of the available lot, so shouldn't we support him or his cause........ send this mail to all media people, if anyone has their info and request them to please promote Pakistan, make a movement out of it' , "Save Pakistan" or something.....media had done a great deal of damage to our country, it has made Chief Justice a hero, lal masjid........a red fort, created hatred among people and parties. Situation is getting worse and we have been blaming Musharraf or the Government.......maybe they are helpless or maybe they also trying to fight this menace of "economic and unsuitability war", they have been surrounded from all ends, India, America, Afghanistan, Baluchistan, Tribal Areas, Talibans, corrupt leaders, suicide attacks, bombing, hatred against army and what not. There is an economic war out there, everyone has been going crazy over the crises of sugar, atta, fuel, electricity, water, meat.........some say its like East Pakistan, situation became exactly like this over there before it became a Bangladesh. Now our luck, person like Asif Zardari has become the leader of the biggest party.........isn't thats insane! External forces have been dominating and destroying us, we must realize. We must react in any way that we can and try to spread the "word", "Save Pakistan", ignore and move on. Make a movement of some sort where people like u and me can play their roll, if you have any info about the media, channels, papers, sites, groups, please pass it on and spread the thought. Choice is ours, maybe its not too late yet! either we can keep dwelling on our differences and grudges OR we can start thinking little positively. And do something. I am ready to share ideas and comments your input and interest would matter a lot.

I have already recorded my views on the article itself. Now, I just cant let a few of reviews go uncommented. While, the commentators adequately display their ignorance and lack of ability to grasp, following are few of my remarks: 1.Umar posted on 8/12/07...what is a "civil society"? Apart from it being coined by certain self centred elements like Aitzaz Ahsan durin so call lawyers movement, what exactly does it mean?I guess an effort to make a distinction between various classes of Pakistanis, army and civil society!! Pathetic, I wonder where is the so called "civil society" when a calamity or accident hits them? Why cant the save their hind sides themselves, without asking for the army? 2. Fiqa posted 11/12/07..try to read what the article says, its contents, which of course requires ability to read and understand. Most of our brethern in this country are Devil's best friends, still the intelligensia hears them , read their works and happily comply! 3. Aqeel posted 6/12/07...who is this joker, thats best can be said about these views! 4. Atif posted 13/12/07..Shows state of mind of the author writing these views...trashy mind! Im sure such articles are beyond such minds 5. Tariq M Haider posted 26/12/07...nothing can be more correct, and realistic. Bravo!

Strong military does not mean that it should be capable of crushing every civilian skull. Royal Army is much more powerful than Pak Army but they never touch any civilian no matter how big is the protest. Lack of accountability is not a symbol of power, it indicates weakness.

My Dear Ahmed, you should not be apologetic in defending President Musharraf, a honest man and the best leader in the present circumstances. Please defend him with all of your pen's might. He is human and like every human being prone to making policy mistakes and wrong decisions. He is million time better than the present u.s., favoured lot. If those are being defended by their most loyal servants, like of Amin Fahim, Raja something, why not defend Musharraf. The B.B.,ran away after cleaning out country's excheqer, a well planned escape. The Babu, went happily with all his house hold goods, even the stuffed lion, thanks to many of his friends. After 8 years living in safe environment, he comes back with wild stories, how he and his family was forcibly kicked and packed out of Pakistan. Both of them and their camp followers do not have any shame, as they smell money and they are going crazy to lay their dirty hands on it. That is why we must defend President, and have him in place to check these crooks.

This article is an eye opener for every Pakistani regardless to his/her commitments or affiliations with any group or party. We claim to be democratic but do not have the courage to listen to the truth or speak truth. We should be above everything when it comes to Pakistan. If there is a disagreement it should be argued with evidence. So we may learn from your thoughts as well. After all we are all Pakistanis. Unless, someone is following someone elss agenda. The contents of this article did come up from time to time in the press and or otherwise but nothing came up so detailed in a form of an article. Ahmed Qureishi should get due credit for it. One comes to think. why BLA in not banned by US, otherwise every tick dom and harry got black listed. Baitullah Mehsood is a safe heaven for all the terrorist and with all the modern technology availabele with the allied forces, they are operating safely. 54 channels are operating except GEO but the US ambassador is bothered and wants desparately GEO to operate.Of course all the opposition and all those who could never think of being on TV are also desparate. All this and more, every Pakistani should seriously give a thought before passing remarks and calling somebody a traitor. Ahmed I hope you will continue with your honest and well researched work to benefit your readers. Do it as a service to the nation. God Bless you

One should not be so biased as to consider such evident details on Pakistan current affairs as pro Musharraf; This article provides a deep insight on certain elements that truly aspire to destabilize the country by targeting the most organized and incorruptable institution: The Military. It is extremely sad that the media and so called analysts fail to acknowledge the role of the military in nation building, times of natural calamities and being the strongest pillar against insurgents. Writers like Ayesha Siddique and Ansar Abbasi are on the payroll of those elements who want to destabilize Pakistan.

“Its Time for Reflection” Let’s ask ourselves a few questions? Question 1: Is the article biased? Answer: Yes apparently, it is!!!!!!!!! You don’t need to be a genius to figure out the bias or the link of the writer. Mr Quraishi has provided all information himself by providing his biography and the pictures. Its right here on his website……… So what’s the fuss about? I regard it as a credit to the writer. He is publishing all reviews regardless of them bearing positive or a negative opinion (from writer’s perspective). I wrote a few comments in so called Pakistan’s Flag Bearer of freedom of Speech “Geo TV’s” blog; just to investigate their intentions as I didn’t find any negative comments there. But surprise! Surprise! After having attempted for almost three times my comments were never posted since it questioned their intentions. So the bottom line is that Mr Quraishi does not appear to be that sinister like what most of us think he is . Well Done Ahmed. Question 2: Are the contents of the article baseless? Answer: No they are not!! There is sufficient evidence to support the writer’s assertions and conclusions…. For the benefit of all PATRIOTS I have complied a database for all of you to review and make up your own mind: 1. The Most Dangerous nation in the World isn’t Iraq. It’s Pakistan. Cover Story run by NEWSWEEK in Oct 29, 2007 Issue. Concentrate on the title its hinting on Pakistan as a Nation. Musharraf and the Future of Pakistan, Atlantic Monthly 3 November 2007 available online : http://rossdouthat.theatlantic.com/archives/2007/11/musharraf_and_the_future_of_pa.php 8. DIVIDE PAKISTAN TO ELIMINATE TERRORISM, A private blog by somebody named Syed Jamaluddin. Available online: http://dividepakistan.blogspot.com/ These are just a few articles which I personally came across in the last few months; given more time and effort one could probably find a boatload of such articles. So …… I would strongly urge you to visit these articles which have a lot of worthwhile content and then read Mr Qureshi’s article again, you might see the point as most articles tow a similar theme. There is definitely something boiling ….. Its best for us to know it so we can fix it.. There is no point in behaving like a pigeon and closing our eyes. Well done Ahmed!! Keep up the good work…….

I am not just reading your articles, I am eating them. If you know what I mean? Your latest exposé on the Americans telling you that you are spreading Anti-Americanism is fascinating. I enjoyed every bit of it. I always learn something new as well. Here too I learned so many new things and about Kuwait that I knew as a wealthy state in 1991 but that it is now at the bottom of the list of emerging economies in the Gulf, thanks to the US’s insistence that it needs to concentrate on democracy first. Shocking! You are so hardworking, where I see your shows on air, where one has to be fully clued up to talk on any subject, as you do.

i have read your thought provoking article regarding toppling pakistan military. the facts you have gathered do seem to indicate the supposed truth in your article but one needs to be very cautious as the same incident can be explained by other people in different ways. the need here is to understand the whole situation in and around pakistan look at all the stake holders and their present and future goals and we may reach the same conclusion as you self but irony of the matter is that there are very few people left in pakistan who will stand up and be counted to defend our beloved country its going through a very turmoil times you will agree and wherever one looks one finds greed and hunger for power at any cost no matter what happens to pakistan and it 160 million people .I am really surprised at the number of intellectuals in pakistan offering advice and solutions to its problems but there seems to be no takers from the masses or from the so called leaders. I feel as a nation we are heading for doom and there is little any one can do to avoid it the history is full of examples where the greed and hunger for power of the leaders of a nation has led to total destruction of a nation .In closing i will request that please carry on in forming the people of your views it was good to get a different angle on what is being said and done in pakistan.

I would like to add to the comments of Mr.Aamir, which he wrote on 20th Nov.,that Washington have more that two bitches and bastards in Pakistan. Sure, look like a propaganda from General MUSH, sir you can’t have the cake and eat it at same time. We all know that Americans would like to see Pakistan destabilized, what’s new about this .Aren’t we (MUSLIMS) telling general MUSH that, don’t obey Americans that much they will betray you and harm Pakistan .Sure we did but then we where called Islamic terrorist ,word by word and sentence by sentence as a copy or what Americans said .So why are you crying now . I know you would call me Islamic extremist again but let me say that, don’t you read QURAN? ... Allah said: Do not make friends with KUFFAR by leaving nd on expense of your Muslims Friends. Well you did ...Now enjoy. Now as he is losing support from Washington, he is tiring to fool Pakistani people by saying hey I ant no friends of U.S. Common Guys even though it is true I will still don’t care musharraf and army, they would inshahallah will be betrayed by there friends as they betrayed there muslim brothers. Mr. Ahmed , where were you and your Busharraf when thousands of Women and children where getting killed next door and we were helping the Enemy of Islam to Refuel there killing machines from Pakistan air bases. Where were you when the hundreds of people where kidnapped and handed over or sold to U.S just because they where Muslims. Now you are so much bothered when Mush is in trouble and pak army is in trouble …remember. Hum nay kaha that na Kay: Sach bolta hoon US nay Tum say Jhoot kaha hoga. Jo Na ho saka Khuda ka wo Banday ka kya hoga. Now Mush should enjoy his friendship and shut up.

What a piece of trash. The establishment has lost it completely. Now it has decided to play both sides. Imposed the Americans on us and now coming up with stories about Americans hell bent on sending the general home. Mr. Qureshi, one would have expected a more reasoned writing as against the usual propaganda piece that you presented on PTV. You seem to take everyone for a ride with the same 'stubborn yet ignorant' rendition particular to military generals of this unfortunate land of ours. You have continued with the regurgitation of the same allegations without covering your tracks. 1. Would you mind enlightening us on the issue of this establishment’s whole-sale attitude to the same US that you blame for everything? 2. How do you reconcile the fact that Musharraf’s quest for power is the main bargaining chip in all our international and national engagements? 3. Would you do better than Mr. Ahmed Raza Qasuri and go beyond this smear campaign to provide some proofs regarding your theory of â€outside support’ for the lawyer’s movement? 4. On the issue of Ayesha Siddiqua’s book, would you enlighten us as to how she did what you say she did? IN particular, would you take time off to rebut the scenario as she presents rather than â€declaring’ her an agent in much the same way anyone talking about the Israeli influence is branded â€anti-Semitic’ in the US. 5. Would you also please refer to Musharraf’s personal contacts with World Jewish Congress’s president who visited Mr. Musharraf a few weeks back to ensure him of the Congress’s support? You might also take some time reasoning how that relationship fits in to your conspiracy theory. 6. Would you also enlighten us on the issue of a small time â€village thug’ in Bugti and how the establishment was using thugs like him to control and still controls the dominant majority of the rural and tribal areas in the country? The term â€village thug’ is straight out of the military jargon though. 7. In referring to nexuses of Ghazi of Red Mosque, you conveniently forgot his links with prominent ministers of the government who bailed him out when he was caught earlier for possession of illegal arms. 8. As for the nuclear stuff we have, well, you forgot to mention how the US has been spending millions of dollars in â€helping secure’ those assets. 9. American’s romance with democracy is as it always was limited to their interests in throwing regimes that were not supporting them or where they had no such interest in a country. The Americans would always be seen involved in throwing secular regimes like Saddam and not other Sheikhdoms. It would be seen throwing democratic governments like that of Allende in Chile and not Abdul Aziz Boutaflica of Algiers. Why would they throw Musharraf regime when he is killing his own military and people for them is beyond reason and out of the established trends. 10. In hitting at the US for brining all the things you claim they do, you are necessarily doing two things. First, you are absolving the present regime of its role in for instance, deal with Benazir. ON the other hand, your implicit argument is that most of the important decisions in Pakistan are dictated by the US. My question would be whose fault is that? Who gave US this space and why? Is it not the fault of a regime that has failed to establish itself a popular support base rendering itself susceptible and even more so, reliant on foreign intervention or is there any other more plausible definition? Mr. Qureshi, you would have to do better than that to convince even a person with average intelligence. We all know who started this crisis and to what ends. This shoddy piece of propaganda should have put you to shame. Discrediting the collective conscious of the nation to justify dictatorship is a hard thing which only people of the stature of Malik Qayyum, Wasi Zafar, Sharifuddin Pirzada and the likes of you can take up as a job. Just consider the gap in the moral standing and repute of the people on both the sides of this debate. The rest is easy to understand.

Excellent article. I read it twice and still haven't digested it all. From my naive political perspective, I figured something was afoot in Pakistan, more than meets the eye that is, but not to this extent. It makes me wonder what other chicanery our US government is up to.

A very informative and eye opening article, really most of us are living in the fools paradise, un aware of what all is going on around us and what all is being planned to destabilise our mother land and its most well reputed institutions. this is the time that our politicians must shed off their differences rather "QUEST FOR POWER" and should get serious about the country and the soil which they had been looting for the last so many years rather since independence, and join hands with President Musharaf and take this nation towards prosparity, glory and development. MAY ALLAH GIVE US ALL THE COURAGE AND VISION TO SEE THE TRUTH AND GIVE OUR LAEDERS THE STRENGTH TO BEHAVE IN A MATURE WAY. AAMIN

It has left all of us with a mental exercise of guessing and speculation. Suddenly; it is a rosy picture all over on the Middle Eastern Horizons. There is all a Hunky-dory in Iraq- Iranian theatres. Just few days ; Iran was a declared 'axis of evil'; but now, it is being given a milder name totally untainted with any evil; a pure hearted and docile Iran. What is the catch? We may be well aware of it that the plan of â€Global war on terror’ was very tactfully induced in the Global war theatres to achieve American hegemony through a well measured scheme of â€Nihilism’ by the think tanks of the campaign. It is very complex and need to be under stood in its true contexts. There have been two sides of a coin of this scheme…. One side of coin is for the consumption of public at home (in the west); where the magic tool of media; the general public is kept in the dark, fearful and terrified all the times, It is common practice to report; a particular news on the media with the well-chosen interpretation, tactfully spiced up in a stench of terrorism; and with the little means left for public to confirm the authenticity, (a yellow journalism). Public is lead to believe the fallacy in the name of their freedom and endeared western life style. Killing and committal of atrocities by western forces in troubled theatres; coming to surface are also justified on a divisive concocted, moral ground of, â€Security and safe guard of western interests and way of life.’ Where as the other side of story is very horrific and disturbing. Extent of actions taken on this side can be best described in words of a renowned Neocons author, Ralph Peters; He reiterates; “The defector role of the US armed forces will be to keep the world safe for our economy and open to our cultural assault. To those end, we will do a fair amount of killing”. The execution of this scheme has since created a well spread chaos, mayhem and nihilism, every where in Middle Eastern theatre. Anarchy, killing, deprivation and subjugation of destitute people out there are the salient of horrific exercises being carried out; Life of common folks is but a misery. Under the old proven British policy of divide and rule, local decedents and insurgent groups are unduly given leverage. A Spree of sectarian revenge killings and insurgent bombings is widely sponsored and promoted. After creation of anarchy, the oppressing foreign forces, fully armed, can move around freely carrying out raids and killing at mass scale; destroying indiscriminately, every thing in sight and in range in the name of restoring peace and order. The added pretext of â€global war on terror’ is giving them a free hand to commit all sorts of atrocities in the lands…declared hostile. Any local group emerging to resent or undo the oppressor’s shackles is branded as terrorist and is eliminated. This is a never ending game. The aim of all this exercise is to wade through and prolong the stay and push forward the master agenda. A superficial effort to blemish Islam is also exercised; to spread hatred and widen the gulf of anarchism. We in the bliss and comforts of our safe western environments remain apt to this given delusion but out their; even the common â€donkey cart driver’ under stands this scheme of subjugation and â€Nihilism’…very well. But there is a clear cut achievement also. After the declaration of state of Hunky-dory; there may be a little respite in the petrified lives of Iraqis; but on the southern banks of Euphrates in the Green Zone enclave; a fully self contained, self propelled; with huge big airfields; a safe haven which was in making, is now fully complete. It is a base; bigger than a Vatican state; which is now fully secure and operative. A well sought foot hold in Iraq; Mission in Iraq; in real sense is accomplished now. It has taken a toll of some 4ooo American lives to successfully build and secure this anchorage. A real success story for Neocons to rejoice; (very rightly sprung up at the verge of their leaving offices.) A well sought legacy of victory in Iraq is at hand. (Will Democrats be willing to abandon this base and leave Iraq? No; it is an American Imperialistic achievement. A dream has come true. They may not be doing so. ) But policy of â€Fallacy and Deception’ initiated by Neocons to conduct the â€Global war on terror’ will certainly remain in place. The artificial respite created in the prevalent mayhem in Iraq can be used as a convenient cover and a leeway to start trickling out and redeploy in next haven…Afghanistan. Keeping a good griping force behind in Iraq to guard the American newly secured enclave in Iraq! Iran has proven to be a hard nut; (to be tried by covert operations; regime change. etc; later.) At the moment it is wise to by pass Iran. Retreat to Afghanistan may be a better option ( in the face of victory legacy). Afghanistan is a war torn, mountainous, rugged and barren land. It is safe haven for all the fugitives. US will certainly avail this. US are already having a presence of sufficient harbouring forces there. It can also serve as best training ground for US armed forces. It will also offer them the real conditions and a realistic on ground training for the future operations. It is one step forward. New American Imperialistic horizons have started opening up. While the pressure and sanctions on Iran are still on; above moves may keep Iran on its toes. The next venture of American Adventurism in Pakistan opens up. There are may more storms in the making in the south eastern theatre especially in Pakistan, where waters are already found in turbulence. ----------------------------------------- Leave you with a couplet: (translation): My savage and remorseless killers; they don't change. Only they turn around with their changed faces and flags. What a strenuous journey of mine; even the traversed span and mile stones are also travelling with me! (Habib Jalib) ----------------------------- Love for all, Hatred for none

Geo TV, Although we are receiving Geo news link in UK and in a way appreciate the service. But this effort of Geo amounts to a mischief that they are running a pirate TV channel telecasting from a foreign land. If observed closely, they are not doing any good service to the nation except spreading the negativity with the aim to tarnish the serenity of life in Pakistan. They claim to be the pioneers of Pakistan Electronic Media. With that big claim they are very much expected to operate while staying in Pakistan; adhering to the rules and laws of Pakistan. (good or bad).So what if there is a state of emergency declared by the government which is primarily to harness and tame the monster of extremism spread across the country. Certainly Geo is responsible of playing an active part in spreading anarchy and glorifying extremism which is eating up my Pakistan. Sure we all know that Musharraf; so called a US man…presently is doing every thing; what he could;…to give a new life to democracy in Pakistan. What a pity; the politician are seen unwilling to see the Fair and Free Elections to be held in Pakistan rather they are being dragged to the well to sip from the Cup of democracy by President Musharraf. Geo may be speaking my native language but operating from foreign soils; is a big question mark? This piracy may give them some business and Geo may be escaping the Revenue/Taxes levied by Pakistan government but Pakistan history will also include Geo in the traitors.

After reading this article and comments which are equaly informative. What I can only grasp is that we know what the problem is may be we paint it or it really is that big. But if the picture which comes up it says that now it has copme to our existance. So just wanting something to eat or basic needs will certainly will lead to destruction. If we see around us we can see living standard in Pakistan have improved even despite of many corrupt regimes. People are not that much hungry as it used to be may be we still can find many in Pakistan which are not or hardly getting a meal. But figure of people who slept at night with satisfied appitite are also increased. Now a days we are after greed having everything but still we want to lease many things from bank just to improve living standard etc. what actually I want to say is that people who are thinking or who are agitating now a days on roads are not living a difficult life as per their earnings or basic neccessities are concerned. They want better living conditions. Of course it is not the wrong desire but when you turn in a mob for very small goal it caused damage to the country. We want that even government should take solid steps to stop drivers from breaking signals but knowing fully we cannot stop ourselves or our loved ones from doing so. If we see our lust for money we do everything what we can do to earn through right and wrong ways and when such people among us grows to influential places we become corrupt leadership. Even at this time when everyone knows how brutely best Institution of Pakistan that is Army is targeted mopraly by spoiling the image among Pakistani's and physically by employment in WANA by corrupt leadership as our politicians never supported the government at that time to unite the nation and supported Musharaf govt at that time to resist US pressure and till today nobody wants to support government to give strength of people of pakistan so that govt may withstand International pressure. Every time our rulers are fighting a battle against opposition for there survival. So I can say that people of pakistan has sacrificed there army by supporting corrupt or stupid leadership which includes present politicians, judiciary specially CJ Iftikhar and co, media and the evil GEO, and the mob mentality of people of pakistan which still blindly follows leaders like BB , Nawaz Sharif or Shujjaat brothers and MQM. Army Has suffered in term of life loses in WANA where they employed without any initiative and become a soft target and when they lost there lives media pretented them as less trained and equally en of own people army. I salute them as knowing fully the way they have been employed they will loose there lives but they never refused because if any such thing would have happened it has caused the situation of civil war or must have distributed the army . And while loosing their lives Pak army soldiers due to media and senseless behaviour of general public reputation of army was also spoiled. So I rightly said that people of pakistan are sacrificing there army to Us by doing exactly what US wanted. May Allah save this nation who do not believed in doing anything by themselves but to wait for some leader where leadership cadre is already hijacked by enimies.

Congratulations to Mr Ahmed Quraishi to observe the real facts. I agree with him that America is not a friend rather we must call "an enemy disguised as friend". Definately an eye opener for those who are against the present Govt. Most of the web sites are also controlled by US and churning material against Pak Army.

Declassified conversation in an undisclosed destination: We need to clip his wings now. He and his people have been fed well. Let him do it on his own or we will take him out as we have done in so many countries all over the years! He has served our interests well for the last eight years. He got rid of nationalists in the richest province on our behalf. But who cares! Noriega and Saddam were also under our payroll once. We played Iraq against Iran for eight long years to keep the weapons sales market buoyant and engage the asshole Arabs against the Persians. That was the beginnig of the end of Iraq invasion. But once they became belligerent and disobedient we had to liquidate them. We had that bastard hanged on their fucking Eid day and had it videoed. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ....... Now our eyes are focused on Iran. But it won't be as easy as Iraq. But we will find our way out. But by then Musharraf might be gone. The Paki nukes are well mapped out. The Israelis can easily pinpoint them on our behalf or on their own behalf to rid us of the Paki menace! They did it for us once after we had taken out billions of dollars out of the stupid Arabs in building the reactor and then flatenning it to the ground. Ha ha ha ha ha ha .......

very interesting, well versed article. I think there is a very well organized campaign to defame the only institute which is known for its patriotism at most ranks. There were/are corrupt Officers but it is mostly comprised of honest and patriot soldiers who put their country first. if Pakistan Army had not ruled the country for 30 out of 60 years of independence; we would not be applying or having NICOP/NIC cards, most of us would have NRI or ethnic minority status. i am in favor of democratic rule but democratic rule requires "A LEADER" which is a rare find in our country and only institutes known for producing leaders are armed forces. America want to see Pakistan's Nuclear weapons in safe hands and no hand is safer then their own hand unfortunately Pakistan's short sighted politicians so called leaders are unable to see that. Sometimes i wonder with so much external influence on our internal affairs, with our brilliant leaders (politicians), so much $$ pumped into destabilization of this country will Pakistan be seeing its 75th anniversary?

I read the article "The Plan To Topple Pakistan," with total concentration after printing it out, last night. I may not be living in Pakistan, but being a Physicist who has taught important "scientists" (during 1953-59) mentioned in this report, and served in the Aerosopace/Military/Industrial complex since 1980, know more than what an average person learns from CNN and other news outlets. It is not the Military which the EOMs (Enemies of Muslims) are after, but the current world politics after the demise of Soviet Union, is dictated by Globalization to steal the vital resources, i.e. ENERGY, for which DEMOCRACY is being used as a Smoke Screen. As I have pointed ou number of times that the concept of Dismembering Pakistan has been in existence since the Soviet invasion Afghanistan, as an obstacle in the path of OIL and GAS transfer to the Indian Ocean from the OIL/GAS Fields acquired from the liberated and land-locked Central Asian Republics. I came across this contingency plan while serving with General Electric company, mentioned in an article "Afghanistan's Ordeal Puts a Region At Risk," by James B. Curren and Phillip A. Karber, and published in Armed Forces Journal International, (pages 78-105) March 1985. In the last one-third part of this article the authors devote a segment "Scenario of the Future." 1st Graphic Map of Pakistan labeled as Joint Indo-Soviet Air Offensive (emanating from American minds) Preemptive attacks on Pakistan 's major air bases. Soviet(or America?) bombings in Northern Tribal areas and air assault for seizure of key passes Indian strikes on Pakistani nucleart facilities Soviet(or American?) interdiction of Karakoram Highway. 2nd Graphic map of Pakistan showing "Ground Campaign forthe Dismeberment of Pakistan: Creation of independent "Peoples Republic of Baluchistan" with USSR (or American?) Naval Base and Force Deployment Tretaty. Absorption of Northwest tribal territories into Afghaanistan Absorption of West Kashmir into India Administration of Sind/Punjab autonomous zone by India. This book is titled "DECEPTION: Pakistan, the United States, and The Secret Trade in Nuclear Weapons," by Adrian Levy & Catherine Scott-Clark, and published by Walker & Company, New York, NY October 2007. ISBN -10.: 0-8027-1554-0. One can read the reviews about this extremely interesting book through Google search. The most interesting thing I found are names of certain people that could not appear in such a book without help from some insiders or those so-called Pakistanis (traitors)who want to undermine Pakistan's security and existence. The government must pay special attention to stop this nonsense. Bashir A. Syed Retired Aerospace Physicist Member: APS, AAPT, IEEE, ASES, ISES, UCS and New York Academy of Sciences.

One of the BEST ARTICLES I have read so far! Compliments. I am no fan of Bushraf but qudos to him. Musharaf managed to kick the wind out that bastard (allow me the right to exalt as that is the only thing I have) Negropnte, great. Your article shows the difference between the self castrated Ayrab despots, the haliburton chai wallah and Musharaf. A worthy adversary for the U.S. – the highest compliment from me. By the way your article was on the best site – Al Ahram weekly, Mathaba News Net, Ummah Plus – my personal private list. May I send it to Al-Hilal? This is one of the most funniest articles i have been through recently! what mr ahmed is trieng to proove is that except musharraf and some of his cronies, all pakistanis including lawyers students politicians and civil society members are on the payroll of CIA,MOSAD or RAW. Great!!!!
Posted By: Umar | December 8, 2007 01:17:30 PM

The whole article pleads Musharraf an innocent man in this mess of Lal Masjid, Baluchistan, Waziristan, Swat, Media, Judges issues. Our dilemma is we don’t look towards our weaknesses and impotency we start blaming involvement of US, India and funneling of money from them. Same blind-fold attitude pervailed in East Pakistan and the result of 1971 is before all of us in the form of country's division. Musharraf cashed the brand of “Taliban” very successfully. First, establishment in Pakistan generates the people like Ghazi, Mahsud etc. and spread the issue in international media and then wiped them away to portray their loyalty to US and Europe. The demonizing of Army is not wrong, Pak army is the only army on the surface of earth which has towns, private university/schools, Askari Bank, Askari Visa card etc. One NO saves you from many YES. US consulate and ambassadors are openly visiting Pakistani politicians, why and who is the responsible for all this? Certainly, Bush's Mush. A couple of excerpts are very funny, e.g. Musharraf has also told Washington publicly that " Pakistan is more important than democracy or the constitution." That is the only way army can rule the country, without constituion. Another excerpt: The Americans have been telling everyone in the world that they have paid Pakistan $10 billion dollars over the past five years. They might think this gives them the right to decide Pakistan 's destiny. What they don't tell the world is how Pakistan 's help secured for them their biggest footprint ever in energy-rich Central Asia . SIR, BEGGER CAN NOT BE the CHOOSER AND HAVE NO RESPECT.

Excellent article. There may be some exaggerations but overall it does make lot of sense. There must be something that suddenly all international media pounce on Musharraf and Pakistan. They cannot see what Benazir had done previously and even how Nawaz Sharif had led the country to bankruptcy. Another term or if they had stayed on to complete their normal terms, I dont know where we might have ended.Dr Shahid Masood has a way of thinking and he can effectively use it to convince others along those lines. Not long ago he was a great fan of Saddam Hussain and what he brought on his country. Its a shame that Geo ows its existence to Musharraf and then completley forgets that with freedom they need to exercise some discipline. About the US role and promotion of Geo, why would not the US establishment allow screening of Al-Jazeera which is a very neutral channel. I would greatly admire Justice Iftikhar if he was to publically deny any of the allegations levelled against him. Did not he take oath under the PCO when Musharraf first took over? How unashamedly he got his recruited as a Superintendnent of Police after had failed the civil service exam three times. Did we ever have a Chief Justice who wanted to be on the front pages of newspapers everyday? I think it was a shame that we ever got people like Justice Iftikhar and General Zia-ul-Haq got to where they got to. We need people like Ahmad Qureshi to give us the other side of the picture. With the freedom of the press, everyone takes his birthright to abuse everything about the current govt who have given them this freedom.

Mr. Quraishi, information in this time and age is not easy to authenticate. Regardless of whether your analysis and evaluation is right or wrong, and I am in no position to judge, I congratulate you for this very well written piece. One thing is for sure; the American government, or the powers-that-be that control US policy, have no love lost for Pakistan. Whats more, we as Pakistanis in general, and in particular some of your readers who have left ignorant comments, must realize is that the US is covertly, overtly, blatantly, and brutishly meddling in the national affairs of our beloved SOVERIGN country. The last 100 years' history is replete with examples of the state of affairs countries have been left in where the US interfered. In it's wake the US has left destruction and social, political, and economic mayhem everywhere. An example to the contrary, even a single ONE, does not exist. If I am mistaken, I would appreciate very much for someone to correct me. The logical conclusion is that however poorly we Pakistanis run our country, the day we allow the US to meddle in our national affairs, to think and decide for us, and dictate to us, we shall be doomed to a future worse than anything we could possibly do to ourselves! My prayer for Pakistan is best expressed in the words of our national anthem, "jub tek hae yeh dunya baqi, hum daikain AAZAAD tujhey. HUM DAIKAIN AZAD TUJHEY."

I have read this article but as an independent reviewer, one might argue that Pakistan army is behind the publication of this article to improve its image, Moreover, this article presents one side of arguments tilting and favouring Musharraf and Pak army whereas in my personal opinion musharraf and pak army are not as transparent and clean as depicted in this article.I have studied in an army institution and i am well aware of the sacrifices made by junior and lower level officers in the times of WAR and peace, but when it comes to power positions, pak arm officials having relations with american diplomats and politicans lick their bums to get into power game. Let me put a simpe question, Whats the point of meeting an american diplomat with an army official. This only happens in pakistan no where else in the world and illiterate pakistanis do not understand american policies. In short, i agree with the article that America has an never ending agenda against pakistan but pakistani army and politicans are to be blamed equally for this situation. When some one gives you money its not free, there are some tasks and duties to be performed and America has given pakistan army $10 billion and its pay back time for Musharraf and Pakistan and Benzair is the next executor and remote hands for America to stage this show
Posted By: kamran rajput | December 7, 2007 01:06:37 AM

I fully agree. USA has fuded channels like GEO and few media men are paid CIA agents. USA is also funding few illiterate pathans in northern areas disguised as talibans and working in the ranks and files of jihadis to create disruption in our country. This disruption will lead to 'major concern' by the USA and its allies for neuclear assets in our country and they will work on 'securing' the same by capturing our arsenal. A similar thought and an exercise was carried out few weeks back by the 'pantagon'. We must not abandon our people in northern Pakistan and start a dialouge and political freedom and try to bring them in the main stream. These people are our buffer and can play hell with USA as they are doing in Afghanistan. One must come out and let the Pakistanis know what is being hatched for them by our enemies.I put people like Asma Jhangir also in the same list of our enemies.God bless our country.Pakistan Zindadad.

I read a shameless remark below by some Aqeel denigrating our sons and daughters in the brave Armed Forces of Pakistan, the army that had made those who think of harming us stand up and take notice. This gentleman denigrates a proud institution of the Pakistani people just so he could defend politicians like benazir and nawaz who are the butt of jokes all over the world, the lowest form of politicians anywhere. Shame on you for making such a comparison.

This article was apparently authored by the ISI in defense of an extremely corrupt and incompetent regime which stands fully exposed. Abrogation of the constitution of Pakistan is high treason and Musharraf and all his cronies shall be brought to justice for this crime against Pakistan. He may run but he cannot hide. You are just trying to flog a dead horse.

Brilliant article exposing the tricks at tearing pakistan apart. When Allah says dont make friends with the kuffar we go and do exactly that. These people are going to rip us apart. Mossad and RAW have 4 seperate intelligence agencies in pakistan to forment sectarian trouble. The likes of bhutto, diesel and petrol (maulana fazlur rahman and qazi) and parvez elahi are the biggest culprits. People should realise this that our only friend is Allah and his rasool and establish his system ordained for us otherwise we will finish ourselves before they finish us! May Allah raise for us a sincere leader and rid us of these friends of shaitaan. Ameen

One thing more, plz post the supporting material/proof w.r.t to Ayesha Siddiqua on this website which in my view you dont hav except your so called sources in PTV.

There seems be no end to my fears that we are very badly divided people. Dr. Ahmed Quraishi’s letter has further enhanced my fears. With a few exceptions [praise of army, etc] I find his article well researched, truthful, and a wake up call for Pakistanis all over again. First of all, let me admit again, that at this point I am a [reluctant] supporter of Pervaiz Musharraf, and that for a good reason. This is not at all because he is an army person, but because he is a Pakistani fighting back against foreign intervention in Pakistan’s affairs. Can we please not see that his efforts at this point are FOR Pakistan? Can we NOT put our differences and uncompromising philosophies and theories behind for a while? While some old timers are trying to sell off Pakistan, he is trying to salvage it. For that big reason, he deserves all Pakistanis’ support.

Congratulations on such an articulate and timely article, Plan to Topple Pakistan Army. To say the lerast, it was a ray of hope in the present times, where the ignorant Pakistani nation is being once again pushed into anarchy by the not so above board so called political wheeler dealers! To add to your well traced sequence of events, it is also a fact Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto, the late grandfather of Mrs Benazir Zardari, was assigned by the Indian Government at partition to persuade the Amir of Bahawalpur to accede to India and not Pakistan. So much for love for Pakistan and Islam!!! This was because, he was staying back in Bombay with family, and him suited to be the Chief Minister of Bahawalpur, as was promised. Incidentally, my grandfather a Knight too, was offered the Governorship of Bombay/Berar, if he stayed back in India. Not only did he played his part to undo the sinister efforts of Sir Bhutto, he took the first aircraft available, to Lahore with his family, of which two sons had already opted for service in Pakistan Army, leaving behind assets and property, very few could even visualize! The other gentleman, who could dream to by a PM, only of the ignorant nation as Pakistan, less said the better! Where there is no grey matter, what can be said! Lets eat and eat "pawas, nuhari and shabdegh"!!!! Bravo! Mr Quraishi, you are young and seem full of exhuberence, I wonder how long you will last here, BUT let me assure you, few more of your kind, can make hell of a difference, which we need for this Contry's very existence. God Speed! May he protect you, for your good work.

Dear Dr. Ahmed, I can't stand hypocrisy and deceit myself, Dr. Ahmed. That's why I'm wasting my own personal time and money in doing my little bit as a Pakistani nationalist for my country. Please aske ex-CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry what was he really trying to achieve? Wasn't he basically trying to remove Musharraf so that he be replaced by the same class of vultures and parasites that Pakistani politicians are? These vultures are around, but at least they are in check by a true well wisher of Pakistan like Mr. Musharraf. Of course Mr. Musharraf is no angel. He has a list of blunders to his credit. I'l be the first one to list them and have done so on state-run PTV. And I can assure you I received no calls from anyone berating me or threatening me after I criticized on state channel a few things that President Musharraf did. The point here is, don't be quick to jump to conclusions and remember that not everything that glitters is gold. What use is democracy for me or the struggle of the lawyers if the end result is bringing to power American-backed politicians who want to turn Pakistan into a banana republic?
Posted By: AHMED QURAISHI | December 6, 2007 06:43:54 AM

You are a big blot on the name of freedom in Pakistan. I wish people like you did not exist at all. All what you are doing on the state of run PTV is to portray and protect your masters ( Musharraf) spoilt image to the viewers. Don't you have any conscience, any semblance of sanity, any iota of justice, any element of shame and 'honor'? Instead of supporting the respectable judges and our Chief Justice Mr Iftikhar Chaudhry, you are like those spineless and characterless creatures like the current fake chief justice abdul hameed dogar and other cronies like him. Shame on this nation of ours, where we have people like these who instead of fighting for justice and truth are blindly followwing a dictator who has trampled the constitution of Pakistan to prolong his misrule. inshallah the day is not far where his fate will be like Ziaul haq or Bhutto. Either he will be killed mercilessly or vanish into thin air and his legacy will die its natural death unceremoniously like him. Then dont run away from this country like those who ere supporting Shah of Iran and ran like rats when he was overthown. Sorry for using this harsh language, as Im really frustrated at the events happening in Pakistan and just cannot stand hypocricy and deceit.

I recently visited your website and could not agree more with most of your thoughts. You are right on the money in your most recent article. Please check out the following link thoroughly, including the archives, as it will explain most of your national politics in the perspective of New World Order or One World Government. The author of this website is very knowledgeable and is an expert in those areas. The link is: http://www.savethemales.ca/ In addition, I have a suggestion that you publish your articles in urdu newspapers and magazines so that truth gets out to more people. Thank you for your efforts and keep up the good work.

I have recently come across a number of your articles. I must say that I am pleasantly impressed with the quality, research and analysis. I am also pleased to come across someone who is a patriot and well wisher of Pakistan.

Why should we be defensive about Afghanistan or Kashmir? Did we abandon Afghans in 1988 or was it America? Did we deny the plebiscite to Kashmiris? Every nation has the right and responsibility to defend itself and pursue the causes it collectively deems legimitate. Please continue to do justice to your profession. You are Pakistan's answer to Vir Sanghvi and Robert Novak

Great Article. We need more truly investigative reporters like you. Unfortunately, the GEO type monkies in Pakistan think that by giving hateful and self-defecating news stories they are somehow becoming "Independent". All they are doing is playing into Pakistan's enemies hands. For God's sake, please have some pride in Pakistan, its only respectful institution: ARMY, and start thinking of Pakistan first. Musharraf has done for Pakistan what Nawaz and Benazir wont be able to do in 100 years.

Mr. qureshi, what a wonderful article you wrote. can you please let us know where are you based, in Pakistan or at mars. and if you live at mars, which i am 100% sure about, can you please also inform us the conditions at mars in your highly informative and ingenious articles. i feel extremely sorry for a person who supports Pakistani army. from your article, one gets the understanding that Pakistani army is not a bunch of thugs, murderers and mafia but a group of very pious people whom only concern is the betterment of Pakistani society. When something critical happens, there is always a number of people who are being hired to create conspiracy theories to confuse the public opinion. for one moement we can buy ur argument that lawyer's movement is being sponsored by usa, but this thing can never hide in anyway the massacres, plunder, and rape of Pakistani society by its military. do you think we should forget and forgive the role army played in 1971, 1976, in 1980s, in 1990's in azad kashmir and at kargil in 1999. do you expect us to forgot how Pakistani army and its military wing al shams and al badar killed our Bengali brothers mercilessly. it was so tragic, so heinous and so disgusting that even this bloody unscrupulous musharraf had to accept it in 2001. do you expect us to forget how Pakistani army killed, lashed, and hanged thousands of people who were against the bloody black dictatorship of zia. Do you expect us to forget the role of Pakistani army as a stooge of American and Israeli imperialism during the Afghan war. do you expect us to forget the role army played in spreading guns and opium in the streets of Pakistan. do you expect us to forget the brutal relationship of jamat-i-islami and Pakistani army which has destroyed all the leading educational institutions of Pakistan. do you expect us to forget how isi's general distributed money to gather forces against ppp in 1988. what right do they have to interfere in politics. do you expect us to forget how they destroyed the whole generations of azad kashmir on the name of jihad. do you expect us to forget how they sponsored these Islamic fundamentalist butchers in azad kashmir which destroyed the whole kashmiri youth on the name of jihad. still people can find terrorist camps in all the districts of the so called azad kashmir. can anyone explain how the army officers who used to come to their offices on cycles became billioners and industrialists within a span of 10 years. i am not sure whether geo and lawyers have been paid by usa or not __ even if they were being paid, they had a sense in what they were saying or demanding__ but i am certain about this that you are definitely on a payrol of pakistani army. your article has a great analogy with the statements of mr. shaukat aziz, who continually churns out the rituals about the growth of the pakistani economy, when people are committing suicide in thousands every month in front of him because of poverty.

Very nice article loaded with information that really make sense, once you try to connect all the dots. About Geo, I want to say that, I try to post my comments on the shutdown of the Geo tv on Geo website and I spoke in favour of the government. My comments were censored and not put on this website, which shows that Geo is biased and they are just confronting the government for thier personal interests and to gain cheap popularity. Below were my comments Well, I think that Geo itself is responsible for this shutdown. The government showed lot of tolerance before this decision of shutting down all the channel was taken. Now, I heard that government is planning to open all the channel except one, and I think it would be Geo. In my humble opinion some of the media was not showing the responsibility and was not following the code of ethics correctly and was just critisizing the government and trying to make things more and more difficult for government and Pakistan. I live in USA and I can certainly say this, and I wont be exaggeratting when I say that, before Nov 3rd, Pakistani media was more freer than the media in America. There was not even a concept of censor ship on Pakistani Media at all, Media was showing the dead bodies of people and suicide bombers without even first giving the warnings. The Hosts of the news programs were taking sides against the government , whereas, tv channels should be unbiased about giving any opinions, only the guests in the program from the government and oppositions can show their view, but unfortunately, the hosts of these news programs started to give their own verdicts, which should be taken as the opinion of that news channel. I think that some of the Pakistani media abuses the freedom that was given to it and didnot fullfill responsilbility in a right fashion. Lets take an example of USA, the biggest free enterprise in the world. The US government told the media not to show the body bags of dead american soldiers, that are being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, so that the people of america wont get too offended and start demanding the return of the soldiers. The american media complied and didnot show any thing like that on tv media as well as press media. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, some of the channels were just bashing the government and they were trying to make things more difficult for the government to handle. So, I think that this SHUTDOWN was rightly imposed by the government, and now government needs to give all tv channels a Code of Ethics, to keep them under control. Thanks

Ahmed Quraishi i consider you a savior of Pakistan Army's image and Paksistan. i heard about this column from my boss and then read it. at least we have found any sane brain who can really expose all those who are trying to break Pakistan and those Pakistanis who are intentionally or unintentionally joining hands with foreign forces in breaking Pakistan owing to their own personal interests. i would request the able writer to distribute it to maximum Pakistanis especially the sleeping bureaucracy and foreign service. i would also recommend you to send this letter to president's website who i m sure would become more learned by this article. it must go to top military and civil hierarchy of Pakistan.

Living in the USA.I go through news and print media.I have very close analysis three months ago.I 100 percent agree with you, even in the USA very educated people are coming to the streets, and asking USA please help us for freedom, democracy, removel of dictators.Yes, they did help iraq when educated Iraqis in America asked American for free Iraq. After five years of fight everybody can imagine how free Iraq is.Certainly I am for democrcy, but there should be some rules in democratic partiies.First, remove all the dictators democrat leaders from their poltical parties. Please read this letter I have written to Imran Khan: Dear Imran Khan, A decade ago when you decided to become a politician, I was thrilled, and then I felt sorry for you.I was thrilled because I saw you as a true leader, and not a money hunger, also not a "Nara Bazi".I felt bad for you, because you did not know the definition of politics. in the west, when a person ask other person what are the oldest professions in the world,he replied " prostitution and politics you have to change partner and bed every night In Pakistani politics may be twice a day. You declined president Musharraf's offer to become a prime minister. You thought he was scared of you that you will take his job.If you had decided to accept that offer, and hypothetically saying you had become prime minister of Pakistan. You started cleaning up the mess, if that did not work out you could have resigned voluntarily, and you could have sent the impression to the world that you are not a power hunger, but a true patriotic person, then each and every person could be with your party, and pretty soon your party would be fixing all the problems with your enthusiasm.President Musharraf had seen honest and patriotic person in your eyes and of course he wanted good people around him like you.I agree a lot crook people are working for president Musharraf.Lutos always grow in dirty standing water. We have always seen you as a Lutos flower, but you also have stupid advisers around you like any other leader. Then, you are talking about "intaha pasandi" that grows under the watch of this government. After 9/11 Uk bombing, Philippine bombing, Spain bombing, Indian train bombing, Russia unrest, turkey, several shooting in American school and workplaces, Saudi Arabia killing intaha pasand.Every other day bruit, Jordan hotel bombing, Palestinians killing each other, no talking about Iraq, last but not least al jazahir. The list goes on and on.I agree with you it's not an excuse that "Intaha Pasandi"{militiancy} grows in Pakistan, the government should be accountable for this. The point I'm trying to here is that where were we standing five years ago on economic front?"Pakistan is on the verge of bankrupt with over 30 billion foreign debt by late 1990. "{By infopolice.com} By 2,000 reserves were three billion , and now they are sixteen billion.IMF in his world economic outlook{April 2004} writes "Strengthening economic growth in Pakistan."Asian development outlook" In Pakistan Macroeconomics fundamental and Pakistan excomic recovery.JP Morgan{January 2004} rights "Wide-ranging reform initiated in 1999 presented an astonishing turn around and credit fundamentals of Pakistan."The ABN Amro Bank {January 2004} , "After several years of consultation we believe Pakistan is posed for acceleration in growth because of favorable policy step taken."Finance Asia{February 2006} "In every ratio Pakistan is beating the best figures."Euro week"Pakistan has an improving economic story with all the indicators going into right direction."The list is very long, I can not go on and on and on. Those have no brain believe on opinions not facts are just another example of the pessimism, siynicisim, and opportunism. The exist in those who refer to those who face the reality. ECONOMIC GROWTH:1960's=6.8% 1970's=4.8% 1980's=6.5% 1990's=2.6% 2000's=7.5% STOCK MARKET: the first four years of 21st century Pakistan KSE 100 index was the best performing stock market index in the world.Reported by international magazines business week. POVERTY: 35% in 2000 down to 24% {world bank reporting} WORLD ECONOMY: The world economy expanded by 5.4%. China and India together averaged 9.2%. China, India, Vietnam averaged 7.4%. Pakistan 7.4%. GNP:Per ca-pita income Pakistan 11% UP.Late 1990's 1.4% UP. USA 13% UP. GDP: Rising 16% in 2003-2004 to 23% in 2006. FRDL act 2005 adding 1.8% of GDP to the existing 1.7% of GDP on education in next five years.Literacy rate recorded in PHS{2001-2002} and PSLM {2005-2006} 9% increase in just five years.Net enrollment rate{NER} 2001-2002 was 42% 2005-2006 52%. TAX RECOVERY: 1999=15% 2006=37% Rupees 210 billion collected. The biggest tax recovery in the history of Pakistan. FDI:Foreign direct investment grew 37%.Only in the first nine months of 2007 they grew 276%.If the devoping coutries want to keep their head above the water, the only way to survive is to bring FDI, which was tremendous in the last five years, beacause of the right policy. It could keep growing much faster than this. I agree our education system is still primitive, and very pathetic, it still needs lots of help.If someone very stubborn, and who is an idiot, and does not believe these facts, then go to wikipedia, which is known for facts and true facts{wikipedia.org/wiki/economy_of_pakistan}.Ichallenge all the reader to spend twenty minutes on this site. I don't give a damn to free media, emergency, dictatorship, compromise election, strikes, jails, above or under the law, judiciary. If we had not done economic growth in the last five to seven years we would have no country left for these things.Every neighborhood has there own militia like darfoor, Ethiopia, Somalia, Iraq, on and on.Mr. Imran Khan ask your Democratic allies if they have democracy in their own parties or if they are dictators to their own parties.Yes, they are all dictators all dictators of their own party. This is a turning point why are we sitting at the point of no return? This is moment of truth, nothing but the truth, can you handle the truth?Look, deep into your heart, and access where are you coming from, and where are you going?Robin Hoods job could be very tought if he had been born in 21st century. You can win a bigger piece of the pie through negotiation, calm down, friendliness, and not pretending to be very professional. In democracy to get bigger piece of cake you have to be a crook politician with a bigger knife in your hands. This is the only reality.Your refusal to let any obstacle to bar your way is something that other admire.Enthusiasm is valuable for the country on the right directions of dialogs not the confrontation.Get to know your adversity or potential client, be willing to look at things from another point prospective. America is my adopted country, my home, and my heart is Pakistan. My house in Lahore is not very far from Shaukat Khanum when i go to Pakistan twice a day i pass by this hospital.I love , appreciate, and admire, your contribution, energy, dedication, and money,as a philanthropist, not as a politician. But, we stil have hope on you, you could serve this country either way. Good luck I hope you can do more for Pakistan. You are still a hero, it's never to late for anything.God bless you and Pakistan. Please forgive me for my ignorance Mr Qureshi, can you please shed some light on how Uzbekistan managed to kick US out? and why didnt US do anything about it. Furthermore dont you think that if Pakistan takes up the counter measures that you have enlisted above, US would declate Pakistan a terrorist state and attack us?

Those political elements that talk against the PAK Army. i ask them to consider this scenerio: God Forbid. If the PAK army is blogged down anywhere and due to whatever circumstances. You know what will happen? India will roll it's tanks into PAK and take over Punjab & Sind. Afghanistan will invade through NWFP and the few separatists will favor them. Iran will try to enter Baluchistan and will be helped by separatist there. USA will clamp down on Islamabad (for Nuclear devices) and stranglehold GWADAR and Karachi port. What will happen to the democracy demanding & agitating public and we as a whole nation? We'll be left to LICK the soles of Indians and foreigners !!! We'll be enslaved in our own homeland. Sick right?? Support PAK army! Support the Army that helps us in Floods, Earthquakes, Natural disasters, and that patrols on borders while we sleep!

This to Mr. H.Q. below, The Connoissuer: Why are you calling for all Pakistanis to return from the U.S.? Why are you painting this to be a Pakistan vs. America thing? It is not. We Pakistanis have been great friends of the Americans for the past half century. The Americans have been good friends to us. However, as a Pakistani, I have every right to be disturbed by the recent language we're hearing from American sources, mostly from people close to the U.S. government. Please don't make this sound like an anti-U.S. crusade. Yes, many Pakistanis, even the moderates, strongly disagree with the emerging U.S. policy toward Pakistan. And again, this is not about Musharraf. This is not a personality cult. I can assure you the Pakistanis will ditch him the day he starts working against Pakistan's interests. The man has been honest and very nationalist. He's had his share of mistakes. But we are a nation that had suffered poor quality leadership in the 1990s. Musharraf is a quantum leap forward. He deserves the benefit of the doubt.

please keep up the good work. I pray for president mushraf. Democracy and Pakistani Political Parties A View from Dallas, Texas It makes me sick up to my stomach when I'm watching television shows and political leaders from different parties crying for democracy in Pakistan. They want democracy for the people, but not by the people, instead by the doctors of their own political parties.Look at all the major political parties, PPP from the last three decades is under the dictatorship by the same family. When Benazir Bhutto was out of the country taking care of all the money she looted from the people of Pakistan. She never thought to have clean and fair election in her own party.Second major party Muslim League{Nawaz} even the name shows that this party only belongs to Nawaz and his brother.Sitting outside of Pakistan growing his wealth and never thinking to have fair and clean election in his party.Third major party Muslim League{Q} is running by uncle and nephew and is controlled by the present government.Mr. Sajad and his nephew Pervez Allahi will never have an election in their own party.MQM's leadership sitting in front of cozy fireplace in London from the last twenty years controlling his party by sending audio tapes to Pakistan.Same as NDP controlled by Bacha Khan and then Bacha Khan Junior, and a bunch of other small political parties in Pakistan do not have democracy in their backyard. Our Pakistani people, I don't know what I should call them, they are very generous, they have big hearts, and they are very stupid.Coming on the streets, and listening to these crooks. It is so sad to be writing this, "at least army generals take their turns, looks like they have a heart for the democracy."I think political parties are totally filled to play their role for the democracy, then the army would have to get involved, which is really sad for the army and the people.I think now dictatorship runs in our blood. We cannot live with or without it.Remind me of the song "I hate myself for loving you."Now, we need to see the blood of the people that was given for the independence in 1947,either it will be wasted, or it will be recycled, and maybe this country might need more blood. The quality of fruit depends upon the roots, the people of Pakistan are the roots. Its nice to see the other side of the story presented by Mr. Quraishi here. What I need to hear from him is that are you also on the payroll of the US Govt.? Theres a common saying "A hypocrite will never accept himself as a hypocrite, and will instead blame the rest of the lot to be hypocrites, one and all".... Similar seems to be the case here. For 7 long years, Pakistani people were not 100% blind now, were they? I mean, how come all of a sudden Musharraf gets to be the guy defying the orders of the US? How come Musharraf didn't hijack Nawaz Sharif's Govt. back in 1998 when he was told to pull out of Kargil? Wasn't he a patriot then? Did he become a patriot only when he was asked to give up his COAS-ship? Its really sad that our own people propagate lies like an epidemic and yet get to live happily ever after. Heard this a few days ago "To win, you need to lie --- All winners are liars", these days i'm witnessing it. For all those who still support Musharraf and his cause, i got two words: GROW UP. Blind bias leads to a dead end. I know several people appreciated this article because it was a fresh gust of air for we'd been hearing alot AGAINST Musharraf and nothing in his favor lately. Nevermind. I just know one thing for sure, and that is supposedly my self-proclaimed thumb-rule: If you try to hurt Pakistan, you'll never succeed - cuz this land of Pure, no matter how bad it becomes, shall in the end avenge you. Musharraf, i'm afraid next is you and your cronies. For all those who keep blaming the US for all the problems in Pakistan, i request you to ask all your relatives in the US to fly back to Pakistan - cuz its about time now. Those who're working for Pakistan sitting thousands of miles away, try being less selfish and COME BACK TO PAKISTAN and try serving it from within! May ALLAH preserve our beloved nation. Ameen. Regards, H.Q.

First of all i must appreciate the efforts of the author towards the research for the article and for having a broader viewpoint. Even if the pakistani army has some corrupt officials and even if musharraf has made some mistakes, no pakistani has the right to go against their own protectors. If it was not for the army we would not have had survived even the first 20 years of independance. Army is still by far the only institution reliable enough more than any other in the country. What people totally and completely fail to realize is that you cannot blame the whole institutions for the wrongs of some particular people. I see all those people who have had some bad experience with the army or have seen any bad officer within the army, find it very easy to blame the whole pakistani army along with musharraf with it. In their 'much ado about nothing' they tend to criticize everything that even remotely relates to the army and the government. This is the army which has defended us since independance on the borders from karachi to karakoram. This is the army that has protected us in wars. This is the army which is ranked the most powerful in the world by many even before we had nukes. This is the only thing that pakis can ever really be proud of. How can you just forget everything and blame the whole damn army for some corrupt officials. We can never exactly know how and when all these internal and external factors are pressurising musharraf. The agenda that most of the politicians and the external forces show on the outside is obviously rarely their real agenda, which is why its called politics. Thus even if they say they support someone we can never be sure of the reality. Even with all the hypocrisy and deception some facts need not be proved twice. The economy, major institutions and the defense could not/ have not been run better by anyone other than Mr. Musharraf. With all the pressures and all these external leagues against him he has taken everything very very boldly and intelligently and has done the best he could have at this position. Many others who have supported him through out this time should also be congratulated for defending the country and making the best out of what is given. He has made some blunders, but with the given delicacy and magnitude of his position and the fact that hes only human, we should be able to cope with that. They say that the leader of any state is just the depiction of its people and we pakistanis cannot expect to be depicted any better than MR. Musharraf. I just hope people can use their common sense to identify the real culprits and not just take the news as it is coming to them. we should always think twice before propagating anything especially when its against someone. Blaming without any proof and knowledge can only lead to division and for years it has been a hobby that pakistanis are best at. I especially feel sad for all those who cannot even take care of themselves and their families and still have the time to discuss politics, to participate in political activities and to support their own political party. The only way to unite is to trust someone that has been loyal to you in the bad times. And the only institution which has accomplished that is pakistan army. Thumbs up on a well written article. You have substantiated the views of many. Long live musharraf and the pakistani army.

Those that criticize the Army. I ask them: Consider our Army blogged down (May ALLAH protect). Can anyone imagine what will happen? India will roll in their tanks into Punjab. Afghans will attack full time into our NWFP to take over (and they'll be supported by few ANP separatist). Iran will take over Baluchistan (where Persians still reside). USA will take over GWADAR & Karachi port. And, what will happen to us proud and democracy demanding Pakistanis??? We'll be licking the soles of Hindus and foreigners. We'll be enslaved in our own country! SO DON'T EVER MALIGN OUR PAK ARMY !!! SUPPORT PAK ARMY!!!

Insightful . I sense the urgency. Most people do not have your insight. May Allah have mercy on our people. Here is something that will really overwhelm you: WHAT IF things are planned 10+ years in advance. What if things are planned decades in advance? You are right about Indians in high policy related positions in the US. It is due to decades of PHDs accumulated by Indians in both Russia/England and the US. Recall Russia gave India books in 1954 as aid. That is a greater aid than F-16s you cannot fly without parts. Stop looking to China look to Russia (India will be tweeked and forced to riot as in 1950s but ignore it). You are wrong about knowing India OR afghanistan. Pakistanis think they know India. If you knew India you would not be watching their movies and listening to their songs. I doubt if you know Afghanistan either or even yourselves. That is the curse of the ignorant. But you are getting there. Musharraf should not have shed blood in the red mosque incident. Gas them to unconsciousness or fire tranquilizers at them but we ought not to have shed the blood of those in the Lal masjid. We should still be careful and respectful of our religious men and women. May Allah help our people and our armed forces. I recommend going into the same self imposed sanction oriented mode as Iran under the Ayatollahs and Japan in the 1600s. Indeed an Islamic Pakistan is more important than the alternatives we are encountering. We should tackle news of taliban and drug trade + we should tell the Afghans to be friendly with us or we stop assisting the anti - taliban push. We should try enact a united Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran-Turkey vision. Current Turkish movement in "Kurdistan" is a problem here. We need to reduce such differences between us.

First of all I want you to know how much I and my husband admire your style of journalism and your show on PTV. We use to have Geo and ARY before November 3rd, 2007, please don’t ask why. After noticing the way they behaved, especially in the light of the crises during November, we thought we will try out PTV. SubhanALLAH, what a channel and good work you all are producing; we have no words to express our feelings. May ALLAH (SWT) give you all more courage, strength and wisdom. AMEEN. I also publish a small news paper, here in San Antonio, Texas, for our American Muslim community. Ironically, the paper is vastly read by non-muslim American. The name of my paper is Al-Ittihaad Monthly and I do this as a community service, which is purely voluntary. Paper is given out free of charge. I am also a guest columnist for our local news paper, San Antonio Express News. You can Google Search my name to know about my little efforts to empower our community sitting so far away from home. Now coming to my point, I would like to have your permission to re-publish your writings once in a while in Al-Ittihaad Monthly. As of now we cannot afford to pay you but, InshaALLAH, we have applied for funding, if it goes through you definitely will be on our list of paid writers. I just feel, Pakistanis sitting so far away should get the real and true news coming directly from Pakistan. Please do let me know if it is ok with you. I will be anxiously waiting to hear from you.

wrote your subject article very nicely with facts. I want to appreciate you. Don't you think that our feelings / thinking are just imaginary, how to stop all this, as you know what we are doing with our media / courts / judges with our own hands. Since 1947, after every 11/12 years, we started our democracy and then again and again.

Plz clear your mind and think I think you are not aware of GEO...its been funded by USA govt......just think what Jew /Indian/ American lobby want ……… the basic idea is to promote frustration, and despondence in a nation, so they start to demoralize and the future can be mapped as they want to project it in the minds of 50 percent illiterate population....that are born Muslim, can't read, but can see. Why on earth USA is concern with only GEO, why CNN, BBC and bush quote GEO? Why not other TV channels in china, japan, Cuba, India, Saudi Arabia, France? Why only Pakistan?????? Why geo showed peoples' bodies without head, only finger parts, people dying after bomb blast? Does any other channel show these things? Just think…… in India more than 2000 Muslims were killed in Gujarat in three months!!!! Did you see any 36 hours live coverage of these killings? Has any one seen this on ZEE or star or Sony etc… any Indian channel???? Babri Masjid was destroyed by Hindus…. any live coverage???? Nuns in Tamil nado of India were burnt alive in a church and for next 6 hours the church kept burning. Did any Indian channel or CNN or BBC show that???? In France, 700 cars were burnt in one day… yet no coverage. There were 89 separatist movements in India in 2007 …from Bihar to Kashmir Assam etc… Did you see on any Indian channel showing 250 million people sleeping on footpath????? Zee India never showed killing of Kashmiris and the attack on GOLDEN TEMPLE, killing of Sikhs on Indian soil How many Israeli channels show killing by Israeli soldiers, when they kill Palestinians????? Have you ever seen Indian president or politician being verbally abused on TV channels during live coverage???? There have been reported 30,000 rape cases in USA… do you see on TV???? But you see Mukhtaran maee on geo/cnn/bbc Why geo was not concerned with Benazir's wealth and property?? And Nawaz sharif's property? WHO is GEO???? Just think… they telecasted false news about emergency and hence the stock market crashed in Pakistan… Do you know Kamran Khan was getting RS 25 lakh per month? Do you know Dr. Shahid masood, was a member of NSF student party (a political left wing student party against Pakistan and Islamic forces…. with RS 22 lacs per month and home in dubai and Karachi Same amount been paid to Hamid Mir editor 'Ausaf'……even Nadia Khan with Rs 6 lacs per month… Such huge amount, just to for free???? When they were not able to broadcast the 8-hour cricket match, they said they lost 1 billion rupees, and just imagine without any money just for free they were broadcasting judge activity in peoples party car for free, Nawaz sharif and benazir for free……all 36 hour coverage just for free????? By a private channel!!!!!! 50 percent Indian dramas on geo and 25 percent with mix cast (Indian and Pakistani) and Indian film s. geo did not show any good news like Islamabad Peshawar motorway but instead it showed dead people in karachi ....they never discuss 5.1 billion dollar of oil refinery in Pakistan, instead they show beheading of Pakistani people... never discuss why America is telling musharf to take off his uniform????/why is USA interfering in our business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to inform you about my personal blog, launched barely a month ago. You can see it here: http://musharrafsupporters.wordpress.com/ I decided to start this blog after getting fed-up with the propaganda on channels such as the infamous GEO. Briefly, I am writing here as an amateur, merely offering my personal viewpoint. I am not a student of politics and am certainly not presenting myself as an 'expert'.

Your article "The Plan To Topple Pakistan Military" was very well written & had a deep insight about whats wrong going on. Its all about same what I was analysing & discussing my friends. My warm compliments to you on giving my feelings a true version. have already tried to share such thoughts online in my platforms, e.g., bbcurdu.com, jang group, ....etc. but not a single comment, ever appeared in any of their blogs/web pages. Offcourse, as you stated, an agenda to corner pro-Musharraf feelings (infact pro-Pakistan). I have mailed almost every channel, every columnist & every so called analyst such thoughts, but no response at all. E.g., I have mailed Dr. Shahid extensively, over his 14th August show (in which Geo has displayed 6 edged David Star, in Pakistani Flag, instead of 5 edged star), but as per expected no reply at all. (I will also forward you snap of the show). Its a painful experience since March, being just on the loosing/receiving end. Any ways, I must commend your efforts.

How much does this author get paid by whoever for coming up with these conspiracy theories. To those who wrote bad things about Dr. Shahid Masood and try to paint him as an agent of CIA, for setting the record straight, I tell you one thing. Dr. Shahid Masood is a true Pakistani and can lay down his life for his country. Once he did a program on US president George W. Bush in which he so much criticized him that the US embassy in London sued him in court and asked him to apologize on TV before the public. He never apologized and continued taking tough line against the current US administration. He can't be a US stooge.

I must commend the article "The Plan To Topple Pakistan Military" giving us another aspect into the Pakistan's situation. So far, I just could not believe how all the opposition (Politicians, Media, West, Lawyers, Students) to Musharraf has got united for a pure purpose. May the truth prevail (whatever it comes out to be)...

Pakistani army has now become a real estate agent. No where in the world the army has its own bank, business etc. Its an state with in state. In fact countries have their army our army has a country. The land actually given to them by revinue department for defence intillations and only for that purpose is been sold out without any share to the original owner i.e. govt. of Pakistan and the land tax is also exempted on that billions of rupee land!

I like the Strategic Approach of Author BUT for whom he is trying to get Support has Committed big Time mistakes. The Damages Mr Mushharaf and his Corrupt Alliance has Brought is of no example. JUST LET US REMIND!!! 6 years ago who was dying for Pakistan in Kashmir? Who was Fighting Side by Side with Our BELOVED ARMY Against Indians? Who was the Protection Zone Between Pakistan And Afghansitan? AND TODAY we are BOMBARING them with Cruise, Gunships and Jets! i ask all of you FOR WHATTT??? who created Situation where the Foriegn Agents Like ABDULLAH MEHSUD AND OTHERS with the help of Anti Pakistan Agencies got the envoirnment to Develop their BACTERIA ??? . I ask all of Pakistan,s Staretegists and Those People who are behind running this website DOES PAKISTAN WORTHED ONLY 10BN USD FOR ITS DESINTIGRATION PROCESS? We do have an example of Turkey who recieved 30 BN USD for only giving Transit Permission to US forces . who did it for Turkey not its Army but Political Government. I Appreciate AUTHORS EFFORT but i doubt That Mr Musharaf is not the only PATRIOTIC Pakistani left Among 160 Million People!

Keep up the good work. It was essentiallly the job of print and electronic media to keep us informed but since they have their own agenda and obligations to their pay masters we remain ill informed thus unable to differentiate between righ and wrong. The freedom they were `given` was absued throughly and services sold to highest bidder. The likes of Failed Dr.Shahid Massod who unsuccessfully tought at Sind Medical College and was head of one ethnic group,PSA,known more for activities other than acadamic, an apportunist of first order, made his way into electronic media. Totally devoid of journalistic norms and values, then bacomes Head of News Dept. What can you expect from such channels?. They are basicly their to make money for themselves and their masters who are just as illiterate professionally.Thats why You Qureshi Sb.deserve our thanks.

The country has problems, which country doesnt have them. We must know who is our enemy and who is not.US and IndIA TO NAME ONLY TWO ARE OUR ENEMIES. THERE ARE OTHERS ALSO. WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF THEM ALSO. THIS WEBSITE WHETHER PAID OR NOT PAID BY THE ARMED FORCES IS LOYAL TO PAKISTAN AND I AM ALL FOR IT.

Does any one know DR> SHAHED MASOOD is being paid 60,000 dhs every month by GEO, He has a company registered in Washington DC(Delaware), He keeps meet meeting Judith Kriper of US and very close to Robin Raphel (Ex Sec To US but beleive to be working with CIA payroll)DR. SHAHED MASOOD is not loyal to his country I guess our Military realized this when he was stopped recently at Khi Airport and was sent back to Dubai.. He is known as a "Power Broker" he has an obsession with CIA and US... He is partying away in Dubai with drinks and Girls.. Only he and few would know this but he does in hotel rooms. He has damaged ARY and now will and has damaged GEO. He has introduced GEO Owner to the Americans so they can put down Pakistan in whichever way the can. I Think Pakistan Army should launch a new media campaign by buying out a local tv channel , fund it and gain trust and present a new pakistan to the westernworld. Do what Geo did to Pakistan.Pakistan Zindabad... Pakistan Salamat Rahay...

Faisal- You said the politicians are corrupt but you are still willing to give them another chance... why?? So that they come back and cleanse & loot, the once again risen $17 billion foreign reserves?? And, fly off agains to their luxury palaces worldwide? When will our sluggish nation wake up??? We should appreciate the Army that has atleast invested in pakistan, and contributed to the GDP growth. We are williing to give chance to those same POLITICAL DICTATORS??? Shame on us!!!
Posted By: shahid | November 28, 2007 03:38:13 PM

Faisal - Ok so you think that Army is corrupt. And why? Just because it runs above 100 business in Pakistan? The private sector & multinationals run above 56,000 business in our country.... so are they all corrupt??? If army has commisioned itself to alot of property all over pakistan. So what? When every foreign investor & local groups investing wants land reforms and concession of rates, for their business development.... so are they all corrupt for doing business in pakistan? I don't understand your logic!!! Atleast our Army is providing job opportunites for our own people. The army has not left the country with all wealth stolen and has not invested in UK, USA, Dubai, Saudia or France like our CORRUPT Politicians! The Fauji fertilizers has provided excellent jobs and good housing to 90% of ordinary public. Just because the army is introducing new business lines, introducing new technology and cycling money within our economy should be appreciated instead of criticing! Atleast someone came up with ideas to generate jobs in pakistan!
Posted By: Aziz Khan | November 28, 2007 03:31:18 PM

There is no doubt in my mind that Pakistan Army is the most corrupt business/political entity of Pakistan. Having both business & poitical interests, its major aim is to eat up as much resources as possible. In every major city, army has commissioned itself valueable property sites all in the name of contonment only to be later sold at huge margins. Right now there are more than 100 businesses being run by inefficient majors or brigradiers? what for? Are these people trained to run businesses? If specialization is not required, then we should allow some civilians who have excellent administration skills to become army majors or brigadiars. Its simple, army is there to eat up the resources whatever comes there way and the best way to do it is to rule. Dont get me wrong i am not siding with politicians who are equally corrupt but still they have the right to rule and over a due course of time, people will be mature enough to pick the right ones.

Very informative indeed. So now I knwo another GEO secret. Its so stress for the President himself. We just think of little things, but he on the other hand has to worry about such cruical and serious problems about Paksitan. ITs a dirty game, in this game no one's a friend...everyone is waiting for an opportuinity to stabb you in the back. God bless Mr.Musharraf, I have always admired him and whatsoever he does I know its the best for our country. And I'm not sure if Musharaf should make any changes on the war on terror strategy just to teach some lousy people a lesson..! The war on Terror is for PAKSITAN and its people, not for any other counrty. We can help ourselves!..Good article!

Amazing facts, rather an eye opener. I was also amazed to see the support for Geo TV by the western media and specially US govt, although before the ban on Geo I was a regular viewer of their talk shows and news, but always had a feeling that they are serving some agenda of others. Someone just sent me your website. I must thank you for writing about the real going ons. Why must BB and the Sharif's compromise Pakistan - I do not know but most people I talk to, are keenly aware of the 'Rent a Crowd' that both of these have been getting. None of the above, have condemned the BLA, the extremists or have shown an articulated policy of defeating those with vested interests and the support of the Indian govt. to these ends. Please continue to expose them.

For all those suspecting the credibility of the Author and the authenticity of his article, I have only one question - what if the Author is right????????????????? My friends! That will probably be too late to realise the blessings of freedom......... Let us all unite now to save our motherland from any conspiracies.......let's all unite under the leadership of Musharaf to save this Country and make it insurmountable and thus impeccable........ Those comenting on Military doing a specific job -don;t seem to either know Islamic History or delibertaly playing naive.......Islamic History is full of Ameer-Ul-Momeneen also being the Sipah-e-Salar and vice-versa. Once again to my countrymen, let's forget our minor issues and work together to save our motherland from conspiracies.............

Well written, Haroon Wasti, my thoughts exactly. How can we be sure that the author of the article himself in not following the hidden agenda of General Musharraf. (Take no offence, Mr Quraishi!) As for General Musharraf himself (I refuse to call him President), it is pointless to argue about the good or bad that he has done when you look at the basic fact: His rule is not legitimate, he is not a democratically elected leader, he toppled a democratically elected government. One can say what they like about Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif. Personally, I dislike them both intensely and am aware of the harms they have done to this country but one cannot deny the fact that their governments were elected by the people. The military has no role in the government. Quaid-e-Azam spoke to the army in 1947/1948 and made his position clear: The army is here to protect our borders, not to rule this country! As for Pakistan being more important than the constitution, one could just murder somebody (which is anti-Constitutional) and their justification would be that in their opinion, that person's death benefited Pakistan! What an idiotic and illogical position to adopt, General Musharraf! This nation wants you to leave! As for America's agenda, we can only pray to Allah to protect this country. This is my advice to all people. Instead of wasting hours of political arguments, just pray to Allah that the person who is doing best for this country is successful (only Allah knows!) And remember, we owe alot to the Pak army so instead of criticizing the army, just criticize the elements in it which are proving harmful for our Nation.
Posted By: Saif | November 27, 2007 01:14:58 AM

Let us for argument sake, agree with the author that it is an international game plan against Pakistan Army and not a Musharraf specific plan. Now then, Can't one also say , on the other side of the coin, that this author has been bribed to incite the public feelings against the " KHUFIA HAATH" and try to gain favourable Public feelings FOR Musharraf ? If Musharraf is such a big Genious and a pro Pakistan Saint , then why ( knowing all that an author knows) did he not arrange a meeting of Top Mil. Brass and arranged a CREDIBLE counter drama by getting a representative Govt. elected, gain Public favour and then keeping the army on his side, steered home the interests of Pakistan? But Lo and Behold !! since taking over charge, Musharraf has painstakingly done all acts to EARN DIS-favour of the general public. What ever actions he is taking show clearly that these are for one person and self oriented not for the nation.......Even a blind man can SEE it. In Pakistan the love of its Army is simply natural. Here we do not have to teach any one that we should love our army. We simply love it. It is in our blood. But can the argument sustain that a country which has one of the finest army ( say 700,000 persons) in the world ,comes out of a nation consisting of the world's most stupid 16,0000000 people. It is not possible by any stretch of imagination. Can't 160 million people see the truth and one author has to come and teach them the realities like a school kids ?? It is a fact that we are a fine and intellegent nation with one of the finest Army. Then where is the fault ? Why is termoil always in Pakistan ? It is because the things are not in their proper places. Thanks to Ayub Khan , the Army lost bearing of its proper place and istead of being Pakistan's Army and peoples most favoured "Love" , it became Generals' army. So some Generals coming after Ayub Khan misused it. The biggest loss to us Pakistanis civilians was that its love RESERVED for it army was reduced. ( I hope and pray that it deos not ever deminish) . Army is the most orderly organ of our state. It has ( as known to be ) the BEST in-built justice system. How come it has never once, in 60 years, eliminated officially, even one General who tried to step outside the given perameters of Army and tried to topple Civilian rule ???? The author may be right but the ground realities and our nation's previous experiences with the Dictators prove him wrong. Ok that we can not trust those outside forces, but then can we trust the dictators any better ???? SHW

Its pathetic simply pathetic...full of controversies... Stupid and foolish effort to justify Marshall law. Military is not designed to rule nor are the generals trained to rule. Especially Musharraf with such a low IQ level.

Great Eye Opener......... It's high time (or may be the last time) we all read what's written on the wall to avoid what seems to be enevitable............ Our enemies simply can't see us Nuclear.......and shall leave no stone unturned to shelve it........ It's just a matter of time...In fact they would have raised the pressure many years back its just that they got busy with Iraq and Afghsnistan........and now that North Korea has bowed before them without firing a single bullet and Iran's vicious game has started, the focus is back on Pakistan........the only Islamic Nuclear State in the world......... My dear countrymen, its time we forget our political differences and worry about something larger than anyhthing............our motherland.

For the benefit of many esteemed readers here, I just want to make clear that, please, read the article with an open mind. This is not an attempt to defend Musharraf. Our concern is Pakistan and not Musharraf. Of course, our president has blundered, especially in his dealings with the Americans. We need to remind him of that. But if your homeland is under attack, what do you do first? I know what you DON'T do: start a blame game. Let's think about the homeland. Of all the players on the scene, the Pakistani people and their armed forces are the only two players out there who are the real custodians of Pakistan. The first one is under intense attack in order to be divided from within on ethnic, linguistic, etc. lines, and the second, the military, is besieged by the international media, our inept politicians, and the domestic rumor mill in order to demoralize its members and create frictions with its own people. This is what we must be concerned about as Pakistanis.

I think such information shall be shared with all paksitanis which seems an uneasy act as most of such wrtiers are not liked by our so called independent media which highlights such issue which benifits them .I do not know what is running in their mind, either they want to strengthen paksitan or willign to see paksitan in peices.I think we must suport military .

Ahmed Qureshi did not have capabilities to write such detailed sycophantic article without help of Pakistani establishment. It is full of speculations and bundle of blames. It also has threats to US, this all practice is not in the interest of Pakistan but to save rule of a fascist dictator. He is ruthless fascist, neither he believes rule of law nor like justice to prevail in the country. Traget killings, state terrorism, abductions, imprisonments, torture and brutalities of Military agencies is on record. His government negotiate place of burial, hides dead bodies and make fool to western world for the sake of money. Military Inc. is written by those elements which are around Musharraf and he implanted such NGO's and PhD's on twenty times more salaries to boast his personal image. Where 10 billion dollars have gone, who took them away? All such money is spent on voluptuousness and immodest activities. He has been passing many many hours in Ajoka thaetre watching strippers. Lickspittal in nature and coward by character. He is afraid of consequences against him, butchers and thugs are only in his support. He is against Pakistan and existance of Pakistan. For the sake of his rule he can sell Pakistan. If Bush is fool then it is whose mistake, he is successfully making fool to every one. No body is receiving funding from any where except Musharraf and his supporting NGO's. It is his mistake to allow US to enter in Pakistan and now when he has received bundles of dollars then obviously US has the right to ask do more. If he will remain on this seat with the help of Bush any more, a regional conflict could take in its grip.

Mr.Qureshi may be a staunch supporter of the military or President Musharraf but he must know both sides of the dark alley before defending his friends. It is too generalized a statement to blame everybody from media to students for playing in the hands of the U.S. There must be either documented evidence or circumstantial evidence to prove one's statements to give them credibility. As far as the circumstantial evidence is concerned, everything is on the negative side of the president and his government, whether one likes it or not. The president is not that naive to play in the hands of the Americans when he has access to all the paraphernalia of the intelligence agencies and full support of the army high command. He may be under pressure to locate Osama bin Laden or step up his efforts to curb so called extremism, militancy and terrorism. He may be under pressure to isolate China from the regional politics. He may be under pressure to hand over Dr. A.Q. Khan. But pressures are always there. Pressure was there on late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to wrap up nuclear program. He refused. Pressure was there on General Zia-ul-Haq to allow Americans a foothold in Pakistan or close to Afghan border during Afghan War. He refused. Pressure was there on Mian Nawaz Sharif not to test nuclear bomb. He refused. In the case of President Musharraf, he never refused his masters in Washington. He almost rolled back country's nuclear program. He let Americans bomb innocent population in NWFP and Afghanistan. He let Dr A. Q. Khan be humiliated publicly. He maligned religious schools for teaching Jihad and preparing warriors. He let Red Mosque (Lal Masjid) episode to develop to the point where he could launch a brutal attack on the seminary. He let Maulana Fazalullah entrench himself in Swat valley before moving his troops to crush his movement along with innocent people. He let South and North Waziristan be bombed and attacked to kill without discrimination. He let Akbar Ali Bugti be killed for no fault of his. He let corruption be widespread everywhere at every level. He let prices go sky high to make life miserable for most of the people. He let bureaucracy, civilian or military, be politicized. He let MQM go on a rampage on May 12. He let Chief Justice of Pakistan be thrown out, humiliated and maligned. He let the media be gagged. He let police give a bleeding nose to every peaceful demonstrator in the name of Section 144. He let Mian Nawaz Sharif be deported in violation of the verdict of the Supreme Court. Lastly, he imposed emergency via Chief of Army Staff and did everything to destroy the judicial system, media, political base, lawyers, students and so on, just like a conqueror conquering an enemy's territory. It is not surprising that President Musharraf would now be blaming the U.S. for trying to depose him. General Ayub Khan also blamed the U.S. during his last days in power. When nobody else is left to carry the blame, it is the U.S. U.S. can never topple a government which is well entrenched, popular and effective in its own country. Why U.S. could not throw out Mohatir Mohammad of Malaysia, Fidel Castro of Cuba and Col Gaddafi of Libya? Why U.S. is still unable to subjugate Iran?

Mr. Quraishi: You've obviously had occasion to see Pakistan's military establishment up close and personal. Its conceivable then that there is some hyperbole in your writing to appease Musharraf and his generals and to discredit his detractors. For all I know, you may even be on Musharraf's employ. That said, there is also much here to raise some fairly disquieting questions about the role the CIA is playing in Pakistan to further secure American interests in the region and to counter those of China and Russia. India's role in this matter is also worth contemplating, especially in light of recently stepped up nuclear cooperation between the US and India. In this regard, one is also reminded of a mysterious Indian gentleman in the US who goes by the name of Amit Shah, who over the years has made significant inroads into the Pakistani-American physician community, despite exhibiting blatantly hostile tendencies towards Pakistan. His beneficiaries, who achieved much glory by parading Pakistani rape victims in front of the American media, are currently lining up for senate positions in Pakistan, this time riding the coat-tails of that other US implant, Benazir Bhutto. A little bit of soul searching may not be completely wasted after all. Dervaish Lashkari, MD

This article itself is full of contradictions. On one hand he is saying from where Dr Aysha got all this knowledge and on the other hand he is saying she was dealing with military accounts for almost 13 years. The author tried to tell us what Aysha did in last few years, but he didn't bother to tell, how he got all this information and he also didn't bother to tell that information in Aysha's book is right or wrong and if they are right then this is our right to know the truth, no matter from where it is coming. the author is telling us Afghanistan has become a very big threat to Pakistan because America has very strong bases there, but the author didn't try to tell us who was the person, whose blessings made this possible. The author didn't tell us that in first year of Afghanistan invasion there were 84000 flights from Pakistan to attack Afghanistan. The author didn't try to tell us that why Pakistan has put the army in tribal areas to safe guard the back of NATO forces in Afghanistan. The Author is saying America is asking for Dr AQ Khan because he has accepted to be the one and only person responsible for atomic smuggling but the author didn't tell us who was the person who made Dr AQKhan to accept all this in front of media and in front of world. The author is telling us that Benazir has arrived in Pakistan to destroy Pakistan and we should not support her, but again author didn't bother to tell us that whose blessings let her come in to Pakistan. Who issued NRO to safe guard her. Author didn't even try to tell us when Bugti was ready to negotiate then why he got killed? Author even tried to hide some facts as well like US diplomat visited ARY office as well. And one last thing, if these US diplomats are so free to go any where in Pakistan to destroy Pakistan or to spread unrest in Pakistan then why Pakistan government is not stopping them. we all know that diplomats cant go anywhere without security clearance, then how the hell they are moving so freely. Author didn't bother to tell us that why these diplomats are visiting Election offices, why they are meeting with secretaries and etc. So Mr Author, very nice try to make Musharraf hero, you tried very smartly to play American Hatred card in favor of Musharraf, but we are not that much innocent, as much you think. One more thing, you didn't tell us who was the creator of enlightened moderation and who was the one to sabotage judiciary of Pakistan. CJ and all judges were on American payroll as well? Please stop making Pakistanis fool any more. Please don't call every one traitor, who is talking against Musharraf, may be in your next article you will tell people , that America is funding me as well Let Pakistan prosper and let it be freed from Pakistan Army's politics.

• According to Ibn-e-Khuldun’s, maximum possible life span of a human being is 120 years plus/minus 5. While life of a civilization/kingdom/empire is three times the life of a human being. That means empire life ranges between 350 to 400 years. • US being lone super power in the world is past its peak. US/West is on a declining path and Neo con’s are trying hard to arrest/delay the decline. They had two options in this regard; one to reverse the path of decline and second weaken the rival. Muslims as people and Islam as ideology seems to be the rivals. • Neo cons know that path of decline can’t not be reversed and the only other option is to weaken their rival. Therefore they will following the second option and until they are stopped either by the rival or Nature takes a different course. • Next natural target for US after Iraq/Afghanistan, seems to be Pakistan before Iran/Turkey/Saudi Arabia/Syria. • In Pakistan all society segments, groups, institutions have been alienated and pitched against each other after Sept 11, 2001. For example Baluch Vs Govt, Tribal Vs Govt, Modernist Vs Fundamentalist, Supreme Court Vs Govt, Politicians Vs Politicians, Lawyers/Media Vs Govt, MNCs/KSE/Privatization Mafias Vs Poor Masses, Pathan Vs Mohajirs etc. • Prior to applying this model of violence/confrontation/divison in Pakistan, it was tested in Iraq (Sunni Vs Shia, Kurds Vs Turks) and Palestine (Hamas Vs Fath) • Prior to attacking Pakistan, Pak Army (One of the Best Institution of Pakistan), Jihad (One of the Best Concept for fight against oppression) and Islam (The way of life for Right) have been fully neutralized made and controversial. Until recent past masses before 9/11 would have been easily mobilized against any aggression on Pak by Army through concept of Islamic Jihad. However now everyone (Scholar/Media/Politicians/Academics) avoid relating/referring to these terms. • Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte a friend of puppets/dictators/collaborators who has earned "fame" for destabilizing Latin America for years, is currently shuttling between Washington and Islamabad in order to fully destabilize Pakistan. He has been Washington's point man on Pakistan and has frequently visited Pakistan during recent grave crisis, one after another. • When situation will be ripe, US will stage/fabricate another drama similar to 9/11 Terrorist Attack or Weapon of Mass Destruction just like they did for invading Afghanistan, Iraq, in order to taking Pakistanis to task. • Most probably US will have UN banner along with West Support. They will fuel ongoing crisis in Pakistan till Civil War. Then they will pretend to rescue Pakistan from Taliban and will pretend to accomplishing the mission of preventing Taliban/Al-Qaeda/Fanatics getting access to Nuclear Sites/Assets/WMD • US Corporate Media has already started worming thirsty Americans for the blood/war, soon we will find reports/footage in US/Western media (MNCs) that some Nuke have been found with nasty Taliban along with Osma Bin Laden dancing around dirty bomb. On which MADE IN PAKISTAN will be engraved. We will find repeatedly false articles/ reports/footage based on fear and conspiracy theory on Pakistan Dangers/Terrorist/Tribal Areas, very similar to recent article published in Newsweek. • US/WEST have always ditched/invaded its friends/allies. Sadaam Bath Regime was once US favorite. Similarly Yesterdays Mujahadeen during Soviet/Afghan War (Today’s Taliban) were also US favorite. • US/WEST Fall is imminent however prior to its decline it will take, few Muslim countries (like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey etc), back to stone ages. After this task US/WEST will have its natural death. • Basically cheap/secure oil supply was only secondary aim for Afghanistan/Iraq occupation. Their basic/primary main target was destabilization of whole Muslim World. This viscous circle destabilization have already encircled Pakistan and will soon encircle Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Syria etc. US launched full frontal attack against Iraq/Afghanistan, they will employ different war strategy for taking other Muslim Countries (like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey etc). • After two/three decades of Blood Shed in Muslim Countries and instability they will redraw the Maps of almost whole Muslim World. Then they will install puppets/cronies similar to existing corrupt ruling elite which suck blood of Muslim Masses for next five/six decades. • Without any doubt, US must have War/Contingency Plans for attacking/tackling Muslim Countries (like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey etc). However Million $ question is whether any Muslim Countries or Pakistan has any War Plan to face US Forces in case; if it has to confront a worst case situation similar to Iraq/Afghanistan. • Are Muslims, making any effort to stop neo-cons from following such a disastrous course? Or else have we left it to Nature to decide? Would Ibn-e Kuldun’s theory be proved wrong?

Musharraf is america's anchor in south asia just like Zia and Ayub before him. He has violated the constitution as well as the trust of the Pakistani nation. He should be tried summarily by a supreme court bench comprising the suspended judges and should be hanged to death.

I do not know President Musharraf personally but meet him on official meetings & have found him so dedicated to the cause of Pakistan that it is simply remarkable. He is 64 years old blessed with two well educated yet very humble children, one the son Bilal living in a two bed room apartment in San Francisco & hardly anybody knows that he is President Musharraf's son. The daughter who lives in a rented house on 500 square yards, drives her own 5 year old car with no servants, body guards & drivers. He is so humble in his dealing that it is simply unbelieveable. You can say anything & he will listen to your view with complete attention. His Only Weakness is that he is Too Good, Too Sincere, Too Honest & Frank & Loves Pakistan to Bits & an OUTSTANDING GENTLEMAN, unfortunately these are disadvantages in Pakistan.

This is for the President of Pakistan, Janab Perwez Musharraf. Im a 100% Pakistani in heart while I live in Bangladesh now. Unique with me is my unshakable love for Pakistan before and after 1971. In spite of all the happenings, still I feel Im Muslim first and then a Pakistani, although technically Im not so. Pakistan has many enemies including many in Bangladesh and all over the world. None of the western powers wants Pakistan to make any progress, while most of such nations are ready to admonish Pakistan at any cost. They are desperate to see Pakistan a failed state. Many Pakistanis dont understand the value of being a Pakistani as much as many Muslims do not understand the value of Islam. Most mullahs and polluted-politicians are nothing but nuisance. These mullahs and political nuisance are the inner enemies of Pakistan and Islam. They are the forces to destroy Pakistan from within. In 1971 these people from both wings of Pakistan had been behind the destruction of Pakistan. I pray and wish Allah almighty may guide President Musharraf to lead Pakistan to be a truly democratic nation. May I suggest that Pakistan should leave Commonwealth, a package of British slavery. May I ask what is the loss on the part of Pakistan to leave commonwealth.

Political views are nice little things to have, however they should never take precedence over the security of a country. Either we are too blind to see anything or we just dont care anymore. Either way, the end is not going to be in our favor unless we open our eyes. Stop supporting from your living room couches and come out in the open or in the end, the only thing you will be left with, is regret.

An incisive analysis. The great powers have always purued their interests, it is up to those who get exploited. The great game being played is well understood and is abundantly documented, the point missed is how the leaders claimed to be patriot miss the link. One hopes we realise the threat in the magnitude it exists and initiate measures commensurate to the threat. Ahsan

You have failed to establish the premise of your argument: "He needs to be supported". There is no logical explanation why. Where Dr Siddiqa may be on the Indian payroll, you evidently are on the militarys'. Not a single word written to explains the military's obscene abuse of power. Not impressed.

I was a member of a engineering chat website and most of the members were Western expats working in the middle east. Some of the comments were to offend Islam and make fun of it, which I used to reply and defend. The comment from Barry DeWalt, reminded me of the hatred some of them had and I felt a feeling of joy instead of anger, after reading his comments. This showed that your article has caused the similar effect on this poor guy as that of stepping on tail of a sleeping cat!! Please tell me more about him, and how come he was in your mailing list. Such an absurd reply, from a person in your mailing list, means you have vastly misjudged his character. He should be ashamed of himself. He should learn from the comments of other pakistani brothers, who had showed their difference of opinion in a way civilised people do. At least this has added one more proof in my heart, that we are more civilised than the "labelled" civilised nations. Your article was an eye opener and if all what you have written is true, then I support the president fully. He is a decent man but in a big mess. I advise him to consult Quran and Seera, more frequently and with depth. There are lessons and messages for solutions of complexities like this. Any action which has the backing of Allah will be successful, sooner or later. By the way, the map that you showed on TV, was actually aired by Dr.Shahid Masood few months back. The conspiracies like this need to be dealt with counter propaganda against these conspiracies! Our president is one of the smartest leaders in the current era, and he can be trusted to do this job. I also would like to have the answers of the concerns raised by Mr.Asim Mehmood. Some body pro-Geo should respond. I pray for the strength of Pakistan, since it has the potential to be the greatest nation of the world. Provided the nation turn to Allah, and Allah will support us InshAllah. It is for this reason, we are in the news since 60 years. World is focusing on us. They know, if we are out of their minds, this nation will rise, so they all keep us in their minds and keep us busy in one turmoil after an other. Keep up the good work!! Good luck.

Excelent article by Mr. Qureyshi. I just hope that the Pakistani people don't fall for the Western trick. These Western powers, along the with the Zionist regime, have aboslutely no respect for Pakistan and Pakistani people, and only after securing their perseived interests. Musharaf made a mistake of helping the so called "war on terror", but right now it's all about the integrity of the people and the country of Pakistan. Whatever differences Pakistanis have with each other, they can address it peacefully when there is stability but NEVER accept the West as your saviour. Best Wishes to Pakistan and its people. Zendeh baad Iran, Pakistan and all moslem nations.

Excellent Column...... clears out some concepts in this sickly confused world ! where the truth is treated as treason ! ....One more thing i would like to add...... ''Democracy'' is not a gift of Allah that we all talk of it so much asif it was revealed to us by our Prophet (Sm) . Democracy is absoulute negative of What Allah has comanded us to do ! Democracy : Government of the People by the pople, for the people....... Have any of You seen this idealistic defination implemented anywhere in the world in any times, past or present ? even if it was true it is no where near to Islamic oncept of rule.... In Islamic pattren Allah rules through his selected system and no one can change it... All laws have been finalized all we need to do is implement them.... unlike democracy ....51 drunks cannot ask 49 pious people to accept dringking as legal .....Islam is all about what Allah has comanded...... If we belive that the universe was created by Allah and that our deads go to Allah and that the chldren in the wombs of our women are granted life from Allah and that we have no power over any of these or anyother affairs...then why cant we submitt to his system fro governing our every day life and not just prayers !..........Think ! Time is runnig out!

I think that this was an excellent article and you are to be congratulated on your analysis. Please continue in your good work. I have the following comments to make: 1.USA, UK and Israel, the Axis of Evil and Greed, their real position on democracy is hypocrisy. The western press conveniently have collective amnesia and forget that the Evil Axis stated they would not deal with Yasser Arafat and the PLO because they wanted to deal with democratically elected leaders of the Palestinians. However today they refuse to deal with Hamas. President Musharraf at least is a pragmatist and deals with them as such. Does the west really believe that the Pakistani people would ever elect a pro American government in Pakistan? 2.They lecture us on democracy and the rights of Pakistani citizens as if they care. Since when have they been the guardians of human rights in Pakistan? Does any Pakistani really believe that Bush & Co have the interests of the masses of Pakistanis at heart? Ask the Iraqis how they like the democracy that has been introduced by the USA in their country. 3.The Western press impose censorship on themselves. They always put their national interest first. I remember reading an English newspaper in the early eighties they called the Poles in the eighties freedom fighters, in the same newspaper Palestinians were called terrorists. Look at the English press when they go on and on about Russia State sponsoring Litvenenko’s assassination, they more or less call Putin a murderer. Why silence on the matter of Kelly where an English MP lays out compelling evidence suggesting involvement by the British Government. Look at how Bush & Co tolerate Al Jazeera: is it coincidanse that their offices get bombed by the US? Shame on Geo for behaving in an irresponsible way to undermine Pakistan under the camouflage of free press. 4.The Judiciary in the west always put national interest first above all else. Earlier this year by reinstating the Chief Justice President Musharraf showed that he wanted an independent Judiciary. However our Judiciary in Pakistan showed how immature they are. Those judges that put their ego above the law & Pakistan do not deserve to be judges.

I hope that all the patriotic Pakistnis read this article. And I also I hope that our government is fully aware of such mischiefs and schemes hatched by our enemies. Believe me it is a constant struggle to counter all the propaganda and lies against our country. We have to mobilize all the patriotic elements inside and outside the country. It is not true that we dont have options as we have plenty of them. But unfortunately it is the anti-Pakistani forces within the country that have always betrayed our homeland. Anyway, I just thought that as matter of deep appreciation, I should write to you to thank you and support you in your endeavors. By the way, I have heard you on PTV during Lal Masjid crisis.

It is foolish on any body's part to think even on those lines. No government repeated no government in Pakistan by any body can function/deliver internally or externally w/o strong Pakistan Army and ISI. Please remember! Pakistan army is an institution and a professional army. It is a national army. It is not a tribal force. It can be somebody's wish but is next to impoossible to topple it. Those who think to topple it will be toppled by themselves. It will be big folly to think even to remove President Musharraf. Same goes for ISI. If wishes were horses beggers would ride.

well... as far as GEO is concerned.. it has publicized the information which was never meant to be spread...it should have shut out long time ago.. now everyone has his own perception about the country making it vulnerable to civil war... i mean now even a beggar (to be read as a person who doesn't give a damn about the country )has his point of view regardin the situation and that too is not a good one. We have worsen our situation even further then we already were when Pakistan came to its existence. Musharraf is tryin to keep up the good name of the country but the media channels like GEO are acting in totally opposite direction. We have become even more radical in our pathetic fights regarding our birthplace!!! man i don't give a damn about your birth place... if ya are good to me... i will be good to you... as simple as that... but due to the media... we have been further separated from each other... i think so its high time to wake up and start thinkin and actin the way that we should... not the way GEO or any other media has directed us... and yeah... to hell with this slogan of GEO... "GEO YA GEENE DO" ya are only separating us... stop it before the whole nation crumples to bits!!!

I really don’t know what to do after reading this. I feel like crying and smiling at the same time. Neither you seem stupid nor naive. This only leaves one dimension--you seem conniving. The best part of your website is where you are asking people to report offensive comments. This essentially means that all dissenting comments can be removed by you. Just like any other dictator, you are the law, you are the lawyer, you are the judge and you are the police :-) This article is such a figment of imagination that no actual conspiracy theory will be able to beat it, let alone, the conspiracy theory the article is projecting. You didn’t think for a moment the answer to a simple question: if all the lawyers, media people, judges, Aisha Siddiqa, Bugti, Taliban; all of them can collide together to destroy Pakistan Military, then who was Pakistan Military colliding with throughout? Were they not in bed with CIA and Pentagon? Were ISI, MI and other spy agencies sleeping all throughout when such an elaborate conspiracy theory was being bred? Let all sensible people help us with one thing: don’t proliferate such ridiculous thinking as it endangers all of us. Restricting freedom of speech is like an attempt to silence the Voice of God! All of us must know that this will never happen. Soon or late, the truth shall prevail! I understand and personally agree that there should be reforms for media also. All positive contributions are welcome. But attaching everything to such a conspiracy theory where the entire world only has one enemy, that is, Pakistan's Military; is a laughing stock.

The security situation has improved so much after the imposition of emergency. The president has put the best caretaker government thus leading the country towards the path of democracy and progress.Th president needs to be supported as the country is more important than the constitution. The author has rightly pointed out the elements working to undermine Pak's security forces and they must be tackled with .We support the President in all his actions ,be it banning of tv channels or emergency.LONG LIVE THE GREAT PRESIDENT OF PAKISTAN!!!!!

excellant article, i must say though that the pakistani public has not fallen for this trap, some paid/naive lawyers/media have and good on musharraf for calling their bluff, no one is coming out to support them. I wonder what the ex chief justices role is in this conspiracy

Some of you are either from enemy country or simply ignorants from Pakistan. Some power is trying destabilize Pakistan and all you care about media? Media was never free so this is not new. Get your brain straight, Worry about Pakistan , Give priority to issues.Start acting like a civilized nation, So people who are trying to destabilize Pakistan can back off.

Your article is indeed very impressive, informative and illuminating but highly disturbing for any patriot to know the game plan and conspiracies being hatched against the country. May â€Allah’ bless you for doing a noble service in commendable manner in this young age by exposing the agents / actors creating chaos, confusion, tension and anarchy. The anti Army / State elements are trying their best to mislead the innocent and young people by spreading rumours, false / mischievous propaganda thus creating hatred, despondency and demoralization within the society. There is a strong need to setup a media cell on scientific lines, especially designed and tasked with psychological warfare mandate to defuse and counter evil designs of the inimical forces and the foreign and Pakistani media spreading venom against the interest of Pakistan.

Musharraf's supporters are no different than Zia's Ramnants. Both were ignorant at its peak

In Pakistan, the target is a Pakistani president who refuses to play ball with the United States on Afghanistan, China, and Dr. A.Q. Khan. Whom are you making fool? If Mush had balls to refuse USA then it would have long time ago in 2001 when US invaded Afghanistan. This is not the era when people used to buy crap. Also you remember that it is MUSHARRAF who gave order to send Army on northern borders where Army jawans are being killed for sake of Musahrraf. Ignorance is bliss but too much ignorance is curse.

Preposterous it is.. a creation of politically naive mind. Its funny how people defend their "unlimited, unconstitutional" wrong doings by blaming media which was only doing its job. Its people's basic right to know and hear what they want to. He is a dictator, a coward who has brought shame to our army and country. he has destroyed whole judicial and political system. Its very easy to blame everything on America to justify your wrong doings. Every single step taken by this dictator was not only u constitutional but morally and ethically shameful.

The judiciary has itself to blame. We were on a neat tidy path to restoration of full democracy and the proof was the Mar-July movement. There was no need at this point to lock horns with a military man who for 8 years had been benign and was taking us to a democratic dawn. There was no need to threaten to revise old SC decisions [Qazi Hussain and Pakistan Lawyers' Forum ] just at this time. These could have been struck decisively once the electins were over. If the judges were careful and sagaciou, they should not have delayed/prolonged the hearing. And then what was the rush to constantly talk about burying the 'doc of necessity'? And then saying, previous SC rulings such as in Qazi Hussain Ahmed case etc would be reinterpretted! Our own CJ had a suo mot case hearing every day. Where in the world does this happen? And, if he was really honest what wa stopping him from hearing Asghar Khan's case. In at least two columns that Cowasjee wrote he asked the CJ to hear this case? CJ was scornful to the Chairman of PIA when his lawyer requested that he be excused from personal appearnaces? CJ was going to sentence Aziz for contempt of court in Nawaz case? Patience, tolerance, wisdom and carefulness is needed when stakes are high. Freedoms are protected as much by strength of character and argument as by being aware of the limits in which one is placed. Alas our judiciary and media failed us more than Musharraf and the military!!!

though your article mr. quraishi, makes sense for a while but wen one luks at da bigger picture it becums very evident dat wateva u wrote is more or less fabricated. can u justify the cj stance mushy has taken? has he been such an angle and true patriotic paki wud he had appointed dose local lota's who were on ECL like sherpao n saleh hayat and who had plundered da money which ws meant to give basic necessities to common pakistanis. ur effort to defend mushy's case can be applauded as the case itself is so frail yet u made a lil sense into it. but da bottom line is it was not enough from miles to convince any normal sane pakistani who has seen da brutality n imbecility of mushy's regime

I have collections of my letters I wrote to GEO, ARY both never read my emails on their prgrams. They are the one talk about freedom and free speech. here I am going to post all I wrote to GEO and ARY Ignorant's of Pakistan I am not here to win or lose argument. I am here only for the good of Pakistan. Newsweek Article scares me because right before 9-11 happened they had the same kind of Article on Osama. Meaning after that article something happened which changed the world. Where Pakistan stood when Mushraf took over and after 9-11. Even a prophet would have made some tough choices. Mushraf is not a prophet. Give him credit for it. As I do not care for BaNazir but her father deserves a monument as he started Pakistan's Nuke program. Lets be fair. Mushraf deserves a monument just for the way he brought Pakistan out of mess created by previous Governments and Osama for Muslims all over the world. It takes long time to fix the problems. Mushraf who is committed to fix the problems is afraid of what Pakistan has to offer if he leaves. Failed and corrupt Bhutto and Nawaz Sharief. If anyone who deserves a chance that is Some Mula. In Pakistan's history only Mula's have not fled Pakistan and never been given a chances. At least they have no bad record. Now problem with Mula's is they tend to take the side of extremism and if that happens then we have different kind of problems. Imagine extremist sympathizer were ruling Pakistan at the time of 9-11 instead of Mushraf , Mushraf used his common sense , I do not even want to say what Extremist sympathizer Mula would have done. Truth is Islam has been hijacked by Extremists. And all I am asking lets worry about this issue the same way as GEO was worried about Mushraf. This is my point. LaL Masjid gave us the gift of suicide bombings in Pakistan. This was the test for media in Pakistan to influence extremists against these bombings but all they did cheered up criminal Bhutto and the Mushraf who is going after these suicide bombers was bashed. read this article http://news.aol.com/story/_a/us-secretly-helps-pakistan-guard-nukes/20071118113809990001 if they give us 100 million dollars to keep our nukes at safe place. They can do anything if they feel our country is destabilized. Is this to hard to understand our first priority should be that we stop our country to get to that point? Rather many are fueling to destabilize Pakistan. Use each word carefully stay calm keep others calm. When we are calm we can think better. May be wait it out . Our media was never free where were these people at that time? Now when many fear other countries are looking for excuse to take nukes out of Pakistan we all of sudden are worried about media? Allah Bless Pakistan

I am pleased as a responsible Pakistani that people of Pakistan has acted in the most responsible manners compare to media and Politicians. Handful of party workers here and there. Remember power of people can stop anything. 30,000 crowd was told as 300,000. These things are not working anymore. People have the history now. People never used to have history at the time of Z A Bhutto. Now people know what they have gotten from previous leader for them they gave their lives. No more stupid destructions in Pakistan for criminals. Thieves of Pakistan. This is what people of Pakistan has learned. Its a huge lesson for Mushraf and up coming leaders to act in the interest of Pakistan. Reputation will play big role in future. Allah Bless Pakistan Allah Bless our solders. End to Extremism is next huge thing for Pakistan. We must unite for it. Allah never said kill innocents for me. We can change others with our good examples. Remember all non Muslims are also created by one creator same creator who created us. Looking down on any human is inhuman. Impress them with your good doings not by beheading innocents. X leaders admit there wrong doing and ask for forgiveness before they get chance again. We must produce new credible political leaders.

Mushraf is not stupid he is a true Pakistani Patriot , There is a good chance Indian, Israeli and USA intelligence is trying to destabilized Pakistan. He must do to save Pakistan. Remember Pakistan has nukes and people of Pakistan must give civilized image to rest of the world not that extremists beheading people .Remember one thing many in world have said if Mushraf goes down Pakistan nukes will go in the hands of extremists. The enemies of Pakistan or the countries who fear Pakistan they are looking for excuse to eliminate Nukes from Pakistan. Javed Malik You are talking about freedom of speech or freedom of press. But you have failed to discuss Issues like crimes of Bhutto , Zardari , terrorism , extremists inside Pakistan and dangers to Pakistan. Imran khan is not very smart person but has good intentions. Now My most concern is not Imran , Bhutto or Nawaz. My concern is Enemies of Pakistan. They are in Pakistan and they are trying to destabilized Pakistan. What surprises me is that Media and people like Imran Khan are either ignoring this danger or they are simply ignorant. Media has failed to talk about the crimes of BeNazir but treating her like a hero. Media has failed to talk about extremists killing innocents in the name of Islam. Pakistan is a nuke power and must act like civilized nation or give up Nukes. If mushraf does not go after extremists then put yourself in the shoes of USA, India and Israel . These countries will do whatever it takes to disarm Pakistan from Nukes. And I would not blame them. Do what is in the interest of Pakistan and run PAkistan like a Business. Shake hands with Israel, India and to the countries where pakistan can profit. Look at people of Pakistan they are hopeless. They have given up. Worry about these people. Not about Benazir and Zardari. Give a chance to Mushraf, trust him if he is saying he is placing Pakistan on his top list. The interest of Pakistan is his first priority. Other than that PJ of Q&A of ARY is the only responsible talk show host in whole Pakistan? all other journalists has acted like jahaliet. They are no less than someone who is burning tires on the streets of Pakistan. You've got to do what you think is in the best interest of your country. Some think the main casualty of this whole activity was the media, judiciary and the civil society. Now i say it: Terrorism is top priority as of now. There is a good chance Pakistan might have to keep media , judiciary and civil society out of it in order to control this new threat. These Extremists did 9-11 now Muslims have no respect in the world. Name one thing Osama has done which helped Muslims? We can not afford that our country Pakistan to be taken over by extremists nuts. We do not want extremism in Pakistan period. Media has proved their credibility by not showing any responsibility. Any Pakistani with some common sense could see what was the worry of Media. Certainly it was not the interest of Pakistan in their mind. Media was more worried about Zardari or Mr 30%. Civilians of Pakistan are not provided with good education in Pakistan , Many poor end up in Madresa's run by Mula's with no street ( day to day life ) experience. A healthy civilian needs good health we do not even have healthy water in our country. Healthy brain brings healthy society but people in Pakistan are not as civilized as people are in rest of the world. Media should play role in bringing these issues on table. like clean water , dirty food sold in the streets of Pakistan. Anyway's these civilians tend to sympathize with extremists with out knowing all the facts. On top of that when we have irresponsible media, who is showing people like Zardari as hero. what can one think of? Now Courts are doing what law tells them to do , That's why its important to make the changes in law when it comes to terrorism. In Past we had corrupt politicians and now too nothing new in that. We had all the problems and laws were made for those problems. Now terrorism is new problem for Pakistan and law is not designed to handle that. Hopefully Mushraf will get that honor, Mushraf should not only go after extremist nuts he should shake hands with Israel. Tell me why we are against Israel? Give me a reason? Egypt has gotten so much aid from USA after they opened doors with Israel. Why not us? Why not we profit our country? Allah is in our heart no one can take that away from us. Do not feel weak. Our religion is not a show up religion Its in our vain's. Infect its our duty we impress non Muslims with our acts. not with beheading innocents. All Pakistanis use of brain required not extremism. Think good for all. Allah Bless Pakistan

GEO or Remote Control Option? Its is necessary for all Pakistani people to keep eyes and ears open for the best of Pakistan.80% people of Pakistan living in villages can be easily fooled by GEO the way they acted in last 2 months. Best intelligence for Pakistan is Pakistani people. We all need to keep our eyes and ears open if not lips.:) Because we love Pakistan. Enemy is destabilizing Pakistan through these channels and some of you want us to change the channel? NO THANKS. People like me see it and will educate others about the truth about irresponsible media. Yes they did great job during earth quake and floods. But at the critical time when Pakistan truly needed them , Media was more worried about Zardari the Mr 30% than extremist taking over Pakistan and suicide bombings. corruption in Pakistan is not new. What is new in Pakistan is terrorism. Change the laws to defend Pakistan from these terrorists. Courts should have less say on these terrorists. Imagine we staying home with the fear of suicide bombers? Pakistan must put them to death for ever with out courts interference.

As for the thesis put forward by Mr. Qureshi in his article, suffice to say in the words of Air Marshall (Retd) Nur Khan when referring to Musharraf’s warning that whoever wanted to harm Pakistan nationally or internationally would have to fight him first, Nur Khan advised the president to have a look in the mirror and that he would find that he himself was the guilty party (Dawn 30th Aug 2006) and yes we should all try to topple a military regime that is not serving the interest of the country in any plausible way.

Was the pakisani supreme court working for india also like honorable Dr. Ayesha siddiqui. Is the cj or the other supreme court judges also indian agents? I do understand that to earn a living you have to be a bitch for the military but dont you have other options available like pimping girls in your family to the general public. Do that and you can walk around with your head high and you wouldnt have to make bs stories on the internet. Your whole article has great comedy. Blaming it all on outside agenda and declaring martial law to save pakistan. Didn't the miltary tried these tactics already in east pakistan. Do all pakistanis a favour and go in your barracks. As for Mrs Siddiqa if she is working alongside "an Indian lady diplomat" why don't you name the individuals and Indian agencies who have bought her assuming you have any real evidence? Even if she has been bought - are her allegations misplaced concerning the army's professionalism being undermined by indulging in commercial ventures, especially in the service industry? Hence, the Chinese armed forces were legally banned from commercial ventures in 1998. And if the senior military are clean why do they not publish an open and transparent report regarding their corporate and land holdings? Mr Quereshi are you a real journalist who offers readers facts, figures and quotes OR do you just write what the generals tell you to?

My name is Manzoor Ahmad Yousafzai with academic qualification of M.A. Political Science and L.L.B. from the University of Peshawar and having email address: manzoorahmadjalalmallb@hotmail.com My question from you is that would you like to enumerate the benefits which Pakistan has received from the Foriegn Policies so far formulated since our independence in 1947? My analysis has led me to the conclusion that we have achieved nothing from the formulation of any foriegn policy so far but have sacrificed enough in the returned. The hazards have outweighed the benefits, if any, received. Right from SEATO, CENTO alliances till becoming the member of the NATO what we have achieved. We have wasted our time, our manpower, our resources for the benefits of U.S. It is necessary to be mentioned here that I am neither in favour of U.S nor against it but as much neutral as a Diplomat. Ayub Khan fully cooperated U.S but in return, he was compelled to write a book, FRIENDS NOT MASTERS. Then the role of U.S in East Pakistan crisis is before everyone. Then U.S engaged us in Afghan War and at the same time opposed our Atomic Programme and kept us under control. It is another discussion how we developed our this programme. Pakistan paid the amount for the F-16 but their delivery was unnecessarily delayed. Thanks to 9/11 incident which opened the eyes of U.S and now has started the delivery of plane after a long time and made a substantial flow of dollars allegedly 10 billions so far since then. All these incidents are before you. Despite Musharraf's so much sincerity and openness and facing the opposition for cooperating with the U.S, the prominent personalities demanding from him to do more. In my opinion, the there is a drastic need of complete overhauling of the Foriegn Policy, especially in relation to the U.S who are now even visiting the Election Commission and have great concern about our way of Government. We consider it a sin to say anything about U.S policy while the U.S are treating us as if Pakistan is their purchased land. U.S has destroyed our specificity and special position. Their aid is assimilated by a few persons while the virluent effect are borne by the whole nation. Is it not possible to live without the U.S assitance in order to live a lesson of self-reliance? The U.S is creating problems and then expects from us to do more. Manzoor Ahmad Yousafzai, Marghuz Balar Khel District Swabi, NWFP, Pakistan.

100% agree and spot on. Nice job. I think you must also put those map of Pakistan ,which Mr. Zaid showed in "World View From Islamabad",on your website so that our friends can fully understand the true picture. As for as GEO is concerned, I think GoP has taken right decesion. When US attacked Afghanistan and Iraq all this so called free media was telling some different stories about Taliban and WDM. And now they are simply abusing other countries for their own failure. Many people thinks that it was Musharraf himself to blame only but I want to ask to them Was there any other choice for Pakistan? Answer is NO it was US who bought Indian Plan of knowing everything about Pakistan. Now even a blind can see it is all about China and central Asiaian resources. US will never like to fall Pakistan away from US. coz it already has gotton away from KSA and Uzbikistan. You r right about the 10 Billion hopla created by Us media. They don't know the actual cost of War on Terror as they never knew at 80's Afghan war. What these so called DEMO-Crazy people were doing when BiBi and Nawaz were lotting this country. Now an up surge of Pak economy and Pak-china relation is too much for them to digest so they are again making an issue out of nothing. Emergency is not something new to world. There are other countries in the world who also has apposed Emergency like Gorgeia is one recent example. Is world is also shouting on them like this. Answer is NO. Why?? And for those who think Musharraf is unable to handle the situation after the 9/11 they must present their own plan NOW.

Dear Sir, I am very grateful to you that you constantly update me about the events which are taking place between Pakistan and U.S. I have already commented on this topic but once again want to say only this much that whatever the U.S gives us is only for her own benefit and whatever we "choose" only for our own selves. We are such needy and greedy friends that no one can separate us from each other what party may rule in the U.S or what system of Government is in Pakistan. We should only wait and see the events till our death. The 10 Billions dollars given by the U.S authorities, in my opinion has not gone only to the pockets of the Pakistani people but also to those of U.S. U.S is destitute to dollars more than us because she is busy in more jobs than us. It is also very strange that sometimes we are admiring U.S untiringly and sometimes we are ready to mobilize all our available media against U.S. It is true that we should look to our own interests while formulating our Foreign Policy goals but we should not overlook the sentiments of our people whom we utilize to praise or to hate the U.S. We do not know what is being discussed between the persons from U.S and Pakistan, what benefits we gave to them and what benefits they gave to us. We like the spectators of a stage drama see only the actors performing their roles and then hide themselves till their new roles. Who is the real well-wisher of Pakistani people, even the people are not allowed to say about it. When the U.S is giving us so much huge amount, in the return, she is justified in asking from us what we have done for her. Accountability is natural. A servant or an agent is not justified to resent the accountability. If Pakistan is happy with U.S, it should straight away break all the agreements with U.S. If Pakistan wants to continue relation with U.S then the U.S is justified in asking us to perform that job which is absolutely impossible to perform. This is the main tragedy of our leaders that they sometimes presenting some persons as traitors, corrupts, anti-Pakistani etc etc while after sometimes those people about whom we had settled in our minds a picture relating to their character are presented as heroes, patriots etc etc. I am personally a strong eulogizer of General Musharraf because he done a lot of for the people of Pakistan and enable a person like to have a mobile phone in my pocket because I am so poor person that I could not afford the mobile phone but it does not means that I should praise him day and night. His imposition of emergency and setting aside the constitution is his self-negation of his concept of good governance. Constitution of a Country is a sacred document which should be amended not to set aside. I know it better that an ordinary citizen of Pakistan my concern is to earn and to live not to interfere in the policy making by giving suggestions and proposals but when my favourite leader is doing such acts which cause his defamation, I cannot remain silent spectator. By protecting the Police officials and other officials from any liability is nothing but to make them more powerful than before. Patwari in the Land Revenue Department in my province NWFP, are openly refusing the orders of the Union Council and do not attend the proceedings of the Conciliatory Committee for producing the Revenue Record relating to the land property of an owner. How General Musharraf can defend the Patwari to violate the law. Patwaris are legally bound to attend the Union Councils to perform their duty there but they do not. Who will compel them to obey the directions of the Law. It is mainly the responsibility of the General Musharraf who always talk about the good governance to compel the patwari or to compel those authorities who supervise the duty of the Patwaris. Now when I compare the refusal of a patwari with the claims of General Musharraf, I find it nothing but to make me fool that the administrative machinery is performing very well. I know that the task of the General Musharraf is very difficult but when he defend his adminstrative personnel in such way then it is nothing but to ask them to be more stubborn to the rights of the people of Pakistan. It is not the solution of the problems that only the President or the Army Chief should speak on the PTV while the others should listen and obey whatever may be the results. I know that no one is cooperating General Musharraf as much honestly as is required. But in Pakistan 160 milliions people are not against him. He should come out the Presidency and find out other people instead of those who have gathered around him for the last 8 years. Pakistan is rich in man power. He should go to the Universities of Pakistan and pick on deputation talented Professors in all the subjects. I hope that he will have a good consultative body for the running of the affairs of the State. He should pick qualified students and give them good salaries, I hope that the young ones of Pakistan will prove more beneficial than the old ones. And one last suggestion. HE SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THE COMPLAINTS OF THE PEOPLE AGAINST ANY GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT. Thanks. Yours sincerely, Manzoor Ahmad. Marghuz Balar Khel, Swabi, NWFP.

Great that you are putting forward justifications for Mush to stay in power. But if they are actually "real" reasons why does the General not say so publicly? If insurgents like Mehsud are US agents why did the general in April 2004 make peace with the militias in South Waziristan? Why did he let the fundos gather strength at Lal Masjid for 6 months before kicking them out? To the common man it actually seems that Mush is happy to use various external threats and the fundo card to justify keeping the military at the heart of all decision making. When in the actual scheme of things to outsiders - both the USA and India - Pakistan really is not all that important (save for the nuclear weaposns) Paksitan is important though to the people who live in it and while the military continue to soak up the majority of the budget nothing will be done to improve their health and education.

The present govt. has quite a big share in creating this mess. If the author of the article knows about these conspiracy theories, why not the incumbent President in Islamabad. Why did he keep on making errors one after another, means he is living under the influence of some ill concieved advisors who should be called as enemies in disguise. Allah is the only superpower and HE will turn the tabels around to conspirators, if any, but HE helps those who help themselves.

This is by far the most interesting, overwhelming article I have read. What is funny is that I had been thinking along the same lines since Black Saturday. Just before reading this article, I was writing one of my own, an imaginary situation that may arise in Pakistan in 2008. I encourage you to read it. It is not as complex as this one, however, it's just trying to foresee creatively into the horizon. I am adding you to my blogroll, and if you consent, I would like to quote this article and link it directly to your blog. Thank you. P.S. my blog is at http://destogate.wordpress.com/

I am unable to understand the dynamics of Musharraf govt. to let every worst case scenario happen by will. If Ahmad Qureshi knows this much, why doesn't my Commando?

Great article, totaly make sense. You are a true patriat, I have been noticing GEO for a year with a tirade against govt especially against govt and never showing the positive side of pakistan. Recently read article on rediff.com an indian news web portal. Mr Mir shows his ture color and he went as far as saying that musharaff will run from pakistan like he ran from kargil. I mean how low you can go especially on indian news forum to put your armed forces down.

Mr. Quraishi, this is by far the most factual compilation of facts on the current geo-political situation and the turmoil facing Pakistan. Being the son of an Armed Forces General myself, I can vouch for these facts any day as we hear the real deal more than any one else sometimes. I have taken the liberty to cite your article on my blog at http://wecite.wordpress.com/2007/11/21/the-plan-to-topple-pakistan-army-by-ahmed-qureshi/ Long Live Pakistan!

Your assesment is clear and credible.Further you are right and I am more than willing to go along with you and lend you whatever support I can.I have run several mini surveys of my own by mainly getting the opinions of small shopkeepers, craftsmen and laborers and the results are very lopsided. I have not fudged them. All support Musharraf and do not want Benazir of Nawaz. If your readers too do that, I think they will get similar results. Finally the world's self appointed policemen, the Americans are interefering in Pakistan and I hope they fail and leave us alone. Musharraf has done what he should do - survival of the country is more important than democracy and a temporary loss of liberties is a small price to pay. GEO is rightly unmasked as American backed - but I am still sorry to see them go.

I have been getting regular updates on the current environment on Pakistan. It is alarming to see whats happening with Pakistan and I just can't imagine that our politicians sitting there can't imagine the gravity of the situation. Well, to undertstand all this, one needs to have some "Grey Matter" in the skull which I think 98% of them are lacking. Talking about the public, they have been made so busy in day to day grind that they just don't have the time, mind and energy to rise upto all this. I am speechless and all I can do at this time (and even in times to come) is to pray for Pakistan. One thing I must say that Musharraf is a victim of his own success, he has gone too far in following the "outside" ! agenda and there is no turning back for him. This is all a SAD story. I just cannot forget the new map for Pakistan which Zaid Hamid showed on your program. I pray that all remains an illusion.Best regards. Shams Ul Arifeen, Australia.
